USNA Mid caught bringing drugs into US...unintended consequence of gender/race bias?

I don't get the sitreps. I get the PCRs. You would be amazed how many commands don't know that there is a difference, and that sometimes you (they) have to do both messages.

Said by a Sub CO 2 months ago after one of his sailors died: "What do you mean I have do issue a casualty report! I cut a unit sitrep, can't you just copy and paste that?"

"Uh, no. Not unless you don't want the sailors wife and kids to get his SGLI and death gratuity I can't."

You get to have fun with the mid who did a Nate Newton impression on the border. I get stuck with the guys who actually try to smoke 150 pounds of weed in a weekend. And yes, you do still get SGLI if you kill yourself with drugs. There is a long standing myth that your family won't get paid if you commit suicide. The more common one is that you won't get SGLI if you die in a car accident w/o your seat belt or a motorcycle accident w/o helmet, vest, etc. All myths. You croak, your folks get paid.

Although a dumb move there could be more to this situation than is being reported right now. I will preface my next statement with saying that it is purely speculative and if its out of line MODS please take it down. Before going on summer cruise to sunny San Diego we were all told specifically to not go to Mexico or Tijuana however, we all know at least one person who has made the trek. Again being purely speculative what is to say this Midshipman ventured to Tijuana and after a long night of "shows" and tequila was picked up by a local drug cartel operation. At this point it could have become a cross the border with this marijuana or we kill you now. Being born in Medellin, Colombia and visiting my grandparents during the height of the Pablo Escobar era I know this type of thing readily happens. Just an idea and possibly a discussion point.

Again to be in Mexico in the first place was DUMB however, it should be interesting to see what happens.

That's pretty wildly speculative.

I bet we can make up a more interesting story with mad libs.

"One day MIDN (insert swear word)-head traveled to (seedy S./Central American/Mexican city) in search of a big bag of (insert swear word) and the fountain of youth but was promptly (verb) by (left-leaning political organization)...

Haha I started to produce a similar story then decided I'd better not just in case it came across seriously. My story involved anti-American espionage from Cuba and I think aliens came into play.

Hands down my fave quote in the entire article:

"That is a really bad offense," said attorney Charles Gittins, a military law expert who graduated from the Naval Academy in 1979.

Good thing we got an "expert" on board to tell us that.

All seriousness though, I bet that some hippie organization is going to come out with this story as more of a reason to decriminalize marijuana.

'Hell, our military cadets are smoking it, it should be legal so their blossoming careers aren't cut short!'

He was probably just trying to make a point. Much like the time when he was in community college and intentionally failed a semester. Somehow I knew this guy would slip through the cracks . . .;)

Yet another reason why we should get some WWTRD bracelets.

That's a shitty argument. Whether or not I agree if marijuana should be legalized (it IS decriminalized in CA if I'm not mistaken and regardless this isn't a debate I'll have on a public forum), it STILL doesn't mean I think the military should be allowed to use it.

Remember, we are held to a different standard. We protect democracy, we don't always get to practice it.

Oh I agree entirely that we should be held to the higher standard. I'm just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if some Cheech and Chong lobby group tried to use this as a political statement.

I agree, I was just saying that this is a stupid example. There are plenty more intelligent and logical reasons for legalizing vice some retard mid.
