nomex jacket reissue

I was issued an Xlarge Nomex flyers jacket in API. I had requested a large, but the lady decided to give me a XLarge just in case I gained 25lbs.

The jacket fits ok and looks fine, but when I sit down the extra material (since its slightly too big) rides up behind my neck. Its not a big deal, but with the helmet on it can be a little annoying.

Is there any chance I get get it changed to a Large, or am I SOL? It has name tag and squadron velcro sewn on.

Thanks in advance.

It may be a little tough while in the training command, but should be pretty easy once you hit the fleet. Of course, that is when you are going to gain 25 pounds...

If it doesn't fit, then head back over and tell them that. As many jackets as they hand out, it should involve any drama. Just be polite and friendly. They should be able to swap it on the spot. In fleet, you'd have to survey it or have friendly PR/MCO willing to spend 7F funds.

no I was stupid and didn't sit down with it on when we tried it on. looked and felt good in the mirror standing up.

I am at Primary and the weather has been a little cold/windy, and now is when I first noticed it.

I'll definitely be fine, it was just more of a convenience thing. Hopefully, I can find that friendly PR/MCO in the future.

If you're at Vance, just go ask the people at supply if they can hook you up. I finagled an extra 4 flight suits and retarded numbers of gloves out of them by playing the "i'm in the navy and we are poor and you have extras" card... I was the first to hook them up with our patch, though...

I did the same thing. Go to the 71st OSS and have Mr. York give you a requisition chit for the jacket and whatever else you need. You're entitled to a bunch of extra stuff when you get there...like jackets (I got two jackets while i was there). Thats something the NATU office doesn't always tell the new check-ins.

just out of curiosity, did they give you the really sweet new gloves with the black grips on the palm and fingers?

Keep the XL, you should be able to easily wear your full flight gear under your nomex jacket when manning up in the rain...or snow. I wore mine in the cockpit.

I wish. If they are the ones Im thinking of, they are the insulated winter gloves. AF got them. We didn't, the wing probably spent to much money on the five 50in flat screens we had in our flight room so there was likely no more money left for gloves like that. it would have been nice to have when trying to preflight in January when the air temp was 10 degrees with a 30 knot wind blowing down the ramp.
