Thats about par for the course with regard to this simple math formula: Naval Academy Grads + Free Time - Nobody blowing you because you went to The Naval Academy + APool = Lets go to the everglades and kill a bunch of birds...sweet

Nothing like a big smile on your face after being arrested for multiple felonies.....should pan out well for a prosecutor wanting to show lack of remorse.

Really? (pause) Really?

We're all scratching our heads over this whole thing over in the Marine pool, including the USNA guys. One had been roommates with one of the guys during youngster year. It seems that the Marine pool runs at about 90% discipline/suck pretty consistantly. That's the way it should be. I'll take that over the huge fluctuations from 40% to 140%.

All of this...ALL of this would be avoided with a simple daily physical muster. Phone muster causes too much temptation for so many thing like busting liberty limits and getting fat. Idle hands and all, you know. Ounce of prevention anyone?

As far as all the bitching and moaning and all. It's about fucking time everybody is required to read and internalize this book...It's a sleeper, but most professional development is...

Felicity does NOT consist in idleness. Put the pool to work on something the least bit useful. I'm a firm believer in "blooming where planted" but no seed is going to bloom if they are put down on asphalt.

Sweet, Academy hate. How original.

These guys are idiots, straight up. In the article they list some of the birds they shot, like herons. I've never hunted birds, but I'm pretty sure herons aren't game birds. Stupidity deserves punishment and they should get what they have coming.

As for the A-pool situation, it sucks but I'm sure it's been beaten to death already with the responses. Do what you need to do to get what you want.

Unless things had changed massively, A-Pool was a physical muster every morning. The phone was used only if your car broke down or something for one day only type of thing, which is why they got caught so easily. Someone correct me if I am mistaken.

before the incident several people who had certain stash jobs were permitted to phone muster on a daily basis.

Absolutely class-less. I'm disappointed that you would react in such a way.

Seriously, please remove the stick from your ass and implant a humor chip. It's a joke and should be taken as such.

Naples is almost 10 hours from Pensacola. They obviously had no intentions of mustering physically. If the pool had a proactive plan to keep their "professionals" professional this would have never happened.

There is a time for hand-holding and there is a time to let people be professionals. Generally when you are an officer the hand-holding should be done with, if you still need it then there is something wrong. Obviously these guys failed the test but that does not mean you need to revert to hand-holding for everyone else. I have seen way too many instances where senior people and commanders have substituted a 'nanny' attitude and practices in place of good leadership.

And just because someone 'fails' doesn't mean that the system is broken/wrong. Sometimes it just means that the person is a failure, simple as that.

One of these people put forth the idea, "Hey guys, let's go trespass on a federal wildlife preserve and shoot endangered species with stolen weapons." Four other people agreed this was a good plan. I have a hard time believing that level of stupidity could be professionalized by any means, let alone stricter adherence to a physical muster policy. These people shouldn't have made it as far as a commission, and unfortunately their actions force NASC leadership to assume there may well be others who don't deserve the brass on their collars.

Absolutely class-less. I'm disappointed that you would react in such a way. As awesome as it sounds to sit on ones ass all day and have ones phone automatically send a text message to your squad leader every day, it doesn't work out in your favor. Morale does not come from tons and tons of time off. It comes from having a good QOL balanced with good training. Too much time off is just as bad for the Marine/Sailor/Officer/Martian/etc. as not enough time off. The pool doesn't need to work their asses off, they just need some actively engaged professional development. Oh, and this benefits everybody, not penalizes them. Sounds like a much better plan than the shit show they're currently performing, no?

Thank God I'm in the Navy and you're in the Corps. I pity your subordinates.

Being a professional military officer is a choice for each and every one of us to make. It is not something that can be forced into someones head with a few simple morning musters. If one is so jacked up that they are going to kill endangered/protected birds, nothing in the flight school program will stop that. It is best to let retards weed themselves out, and it does not make sense to punish the masses because of a stupid few.

If someone is an idiot do you really want the pool to babysit them or would you just rather they kick the idiots out like they do now. I prefer the latter, otherwise the idiot might be your wingman one day.

FYI the Whiting primary pool was always a phone muster. It was awesome and most of us were mature enough to handle it. Those that weren't didn't enjoy life.

Stop trying to make the military suck for the rest of us motard!

I will agree with the fact that more direction is needed for those USNA guys who come down not even knowing what a pint of beer and brow shoes are. All commissioning sources have their special ones I guess.

HOORAH SEMPER FUCKIN' YUT...MOTIVATION REPLACES THINKING!!!

What the fuck ever man...I don't go to work if I am not on the flight schedule...and I am still "gasp" motivated to do my job and not do stupid shit...

If you want to treat everyone like a kindergartner, they will act like one...even you motards do stupid shit while on the jub, muster or no muster...

I'm pretty sure he was "at work"...

These guys were class A retards, but if you tone the idiocy meter down about 10 cranks, I can think of at least a couple good professional dudes who have let the idle time get the best of them.
You better be the guy volunteering for weekend duty when you make it to a fleet squadron.

Oh you salty dog.

All of that experience of sitting in stash jobs, just waiting to get in trouble. Be careful, your job might just put you in a situation where you have to much (up to 4 days) free time in far away lands with a little to much cash to burn and to much alcohol. I am not sure you can be trusted with yourself. ;)

The horror

Really just speaking for a similar level of experience as the guys in question here.....obviously it happened to them, even if their salt is purely acquired from the cool ocean breeze during A pool muster :)

When I say idle time and boredom, I am not just speaking of a couple days here or there....more like weeks on end with nothing else to do. Some folks are just less creative with their free time

I guess that I was lucky to be simple minded enough to be entertained by fishing at day and chasing pussy at night. It's not creative, but it kept me out of jail.
