Question about the below portion of the reg for leather nametags (my emphasis added). These tags would be worn with the V-Neck sweater, among other things.

b. Velcro Backed Leather Nametag. Nametags shall be made of plain black leather in 2"x4" dimension. Name, rank/rate and duty status (USN) shall be embossed in gold for officers/CPOs and in silver for E6 and below with lettering in block letters, 1/4 inch high. Only one earned breast insig*nia may be worn. (Patrol pins not authorized). The insig*nia (silver or gold) shall be embossed above the individual's name.

Would anyone interpret this to meant that the leather nametag cannot have the velcro sewed on, meaning, it would have to be glued on?

Below are some examples. The image on the left shows the velcro sewn onto the leather. The image on the right shows the velcro glued onto the leather:

I've seen both. I don't think it matters.

Edit: My current one is sewn on and it was given to me by the squadron.

Of course, the real question is why any self-respecting person would be caught wearing the V-neck sweater.

I think you're reading to much into this. "Plain black leather" means you can't go get some Gucci sharkskin or multicolored ostrich leather and use it for a nametag. Sqdrn specific cloth tags also need not apply. As long as nametag is plain black: you're in regs.

Also, as others have said: no one will care. The ones I bought at the Nex were glued. All the ones I've gotten from various PR shops have been sewn.

And read sec 6803.2b as well. It allows for brown leather and tan jacket nametags when appropriate.

1) Worrying about glued or sewn sounds like a Marine LCpl worrying about whether they need their middle initial stamped on their tighty whiteys...It just doesn't matter to whoever is inspecting them.

2) Khaki Eisenhower...WHY and WTF?

Are they even authorized anymore? They generally looked like crap, seemed like most of the guys who wore them threw them on the floor when they got home.
