Coasties also select platform (helo or fixed wing) based off their API NSS. They get a pool going once there is enough bodies in Whiting. Top 3 get their choice while everyone else is at the mercy of the needs of CG.
Not entirely true. It all depends on the class and the CG Liaision at the time. There have been times that the students were given what slots were available and told to figure out who was going where and report back to the Liaision with the answer.
There is nothing written anywhere that the top three get their choice. It all depends on the class.
actually, we added 13 H-65s this year. We are short on pilots in both rotary and fixed but fixed is still the push for now since we cannot get all of the helicopter pilots we have to their transition courses. We have three flight billets at our unit being filled by pilots who have no idea when they will get qualified in the aircraft they were hired to fly.
