FY10 STA-21 Applicants gather round!

blizzy

FY-10 STA-21 Selectee
My solution: I set my homepage to the link for this thread but with the "page=" at "page=55". I figure that when results come out, this thread will explode like it did last year, and when it does, page 55 will come to existence, and my home screen won't be a 404 error page.

Looks like you're gonna need to change that to "page=85"

So I've been watching this forum for a while and have received some great advice. Thanks for that.

Should I have already submitted my application letter for my college? I would assume it doesn't hurt but am I screwed if I haven't?

Anyone know the odds of getting into ODU (with ROTC considerations)? That's my first choice since my house is already here since I'm currently stationed on the IKE. I would hate to have to go to U of V when it's 2 hours away from my house...

I had a million questions but can't remember them after the registration process... Are you all mostly going for Pilot/NFO? Heard that's pretty tough to get into, good luck to all. Hopefully SWO is easy this year...

Anyone know how likely it is to get CORE (my 2nd choice) if I don't get SWO? Just curious what the likelihood of that would be.

I'll post more if I think of them. Thanks for any help.

Most of the colleges will work with you to get your application pushed through within the time frame, you just have to talk to either the NROTC unit there, or the registrar's office, whichever gets you better results. So don't worry about that.
Core option just puts you up against all the people who put in Core first and the people that did not get their first choice, so that is kind of a crapshoot depending on the other applicants

you are not screwed but you should be starting on it now, by now at a minimum, you should know which college and what degree path you want from each of the colleges that you plan on applying. Ive got about 6 applications submitted or in progress.

The only thing I had confusion with was which semester to apply for. So I applied for Sping, but realistically it would be impossible to start in the spring. I am reapplying now for the summer semesters. Is there anybody out there have any more advice one how to apply and which semseters to apply for?

So if I don't get SWO and get thrown in the CORE option, there's no advantage for someone who put CORE first? I guess then you're also competing against everyone else who didn't get their first choice and are going for CORE so you're odds of getting CORE go down markedly.

I was a SWO alternate last year with roughly 90 credits, no warfare qual or NEC, 2 years service, and was on my first deployment. Had one board with a few 8's and 9's. That will give you a gauge to guide off of. I was riding on my nomination review board, evals, and LOR.

This year I am applying pilot/core.

From what I understand SWO is more competitive due to the number of applicants.

Letters of acceptance are submitted after you are notified of selection status.

For the board every package is given a score and if you don't meet the SWO score then you are put into the CORE pile and ranked there. At least thats the way I understood it.

There's another question I was reminded of...

You have 6 apps in but we can only pick three schools... Are you able to do schools you didn't put down??

I ask bc my wife at first didn't want to go back to AZ but just having gotten back from vacation in AZ I would like to if I don't get ODU.

Thats correct, putting only CORE is foolish, especially if you have an idea of what you want to do. Your odds are diminished greatly only applying CORE.

I would ask the college, it depends on if you go to BOOST or NSI. NSI only starts in the summer, BOOST starts in the Fall. Some schools require Spring admittance to attend summer sessions, whereas some don't care. The most difficult part of this program is trying to figure all of this out, it seems as if nobody has any idea what to do with STA-21 people. It is liberating and horrible at the same time. This is most likely one of the better, if not best, places for info, but always double check everything on your own, because things change so fast and often a lot of my info might be outdated.

You can change schools right up until you get orders, and even sometimes they will let you change after you get them. We had a couple change while at NSI.

How was the alternate process, what did you have to do? How many alternates are picked up, is there a trend over the last few years or is it random?

You were picked as an alt with no warfare? Wow that's awesome, you must have had some smokin' evals or something or maybe they don't care much. I am dual warfare qual'd so hopefully that counts for something.

I've got MP's, sw/aw, lots of collateral duties and 8-10's on three boards (our command, other command and CO) and I was ranked first out of the people I applied with on the ship. I also have like 27 credits plus what ODU said they'd give me for nuke pipeline (about 40 I think it was, I basically had like 60 hours left for a MET w/ nuke option) and I'm ridiculously good looking... jk. Two letters of rec from 2 LT's in RX on the IKE...
