Shoulder Holster Q

Ok... so I'm looking for a shoulder holster for a Sig P229. Anyone have any manufacturers that they'd reccommend?

Also, I'm not sure whether to get a vertical or horizontal holster. I like the idea of the vertical b/c the muzzle in pointed at the deck. But, since I'll be wearing it ALOT over the next few months, which have you found more comfortable? I've, on more then a few instances, been steered away from vertical, but only "because no one really uses them".

I don't know where you will be wearing it, but quite a few places don't allow horizontal carry shoulder holsters (like it matters when the pimply faced AF tard sweeps you with his M16, or lays it on the deck in the DFAC....). I spent $30 in theater on a nice black leather adjustable shoulder holster that fit my SIG, don't recall the maker.

Ive had problems with a horizontal not fitting well and feeling like my gun was going to fall out. I NEVER like that feeling so I recommend trying to find a vertical that you like.

For what, at the range, to and from the truck?....

Whether your harness is vertical or horizontal, you should have some sort of retaining strap on it. Come on now... you aren't going to be uber tactical, the weapon in this case a SIG is there for DEFENSE, you won't be charging away with your 2-3 magazines. That is what the devil dogs and snake eaters are for, and heck, you would just be in the way, right? :D

You definitely don't want to be the tard (yes, my word of the night) that:

1) Leaves his/her weapon hanging in the shitter
2) Loses a magazine from their harness because it was a P.O.S. that didn't secure properly
3) Said weapon falls out, tard doesn't notice

why do you want a shoulder holster? limits much of what you can wear and is just plain bulky. I had one in college just because i thought it was cool. Now i only carry on my hip with an IWB holster with an extra magazine and my badge. I'm a large t-shirt and jeans guy and i hated tucking in my shirt and wearing a jacket with a shoulder holster.

Based on AW feedback, I got a Galco Miami and loved it. Fit like a glove. Much better than the cheap nylon crap they issue. Deals can be had in-theater on leather goods, but they seemed few and far between - most of the locally produced stuff I saw was of questionable quality.

Downside is that the Galcos are not cheap, but then again you get what you pay for. Ebay (where I ended up getting mine) always has deals floating around: http://cgi.ebay.com/Galco-Miami-Cla...39:1|66:2|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Uncle Mike's makes a nice vertical holster (the 'sidekick' goes for about $50), if you like cordura. For leather I like the Bianchi X-15, $150 - 120.

I'm going to be wearing it over a flight suit. And that's pretty much it.

I don't know about the OP, but I'm considering a shoulder holster for when I'm riding. With a zipped up 2-piece suit IWB isn't an option, and even if it were, the hip is a bad place to land on a pistol if I took a fall. The armpit seems like the safest place to stash a hunk of steel in the event of a crash.

Interesting. I always thought that my Glock would take the brunt of the fall/slide if I ended up on my hip.

I had a retention strap on it but it just made me feel uncomfortable. I bought my shoulder holster to wear when I wore a suit to the office. It may have been the particular holster, but it just never felt secure.

I've found the old standby shoulder rig for tankers to be just fine for flying. It stays up out of the way and still handy to either hand. I don't foresee you doing any fast draws so that is a mute point. You are looking for security and yet out of the way. Flying helos without all the other equipment getting in the way, a tanker rig can be placed to stay out from under the sholder straps and not dig into other places. I've worn mine for many years carrying a 1911 and got some extra nylon pouches for spare mags. Never saw need to carry more than two extras loaded up.

Here's a real cheap one. I used one just like it in Iraq, but it was the ACU flavor. You can buy Hadjii leather one when you get in county for less than 30 bones.
