Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I will just worry about getting stronger and in better shape and not worry too much about my weight.

Something to consider is that weighing 10 lbs more means the pack is a lower proportion of your body weight (which is good), but it also means you have to lug around that same pack + extra 10 lbs.

If it is 10 lbs of solid muscle you are gaining, that is one thing. But just gaining weight for the sake of gaining weight just means you have more weight total you are moving.

Also, if you are a "hard-gainer," you will most likely shed that 10 lbs pretty damn quick once you get there and start sweating it out 24/7 and eating only 3x a day. The humps aren't really towards the beginning, so there is a high chance that your weight gain won't really even be there anymore by the time the event that you gained weight for arrives.

Edit: Same for pugil sticks.

Do I get to shoot anything?

Hey guys. I'm going to PLC this summer and I'm curious about what kind of weapons training there might be, if any. I've never had the pleasure of using a firearm and was wondering if I'd get the chance to do so at PLC. Sorry if it seems like a stupid question, but hey if I don't know, I don't know.

The only weapons training you'll get is shooting blanks out of the M16A2 Service Rifle, unless you want to count drill and cleaning "training". You will be doing a good amount of drill and cleaning, especially from firing blanks. Honestly, you shouldn't even worry about it, because they will teach you everything you need to know. The real weapons training comes at TBS, when you do the rifle range and all the live fire exercises. You might get a couple classes on MCMAP, but beyond the basic punch, kick, and shooting blanks, there is no weapons training. Good luck at Brown Field ;). PLC Combined or Juniors?

PLC Juniors. I have an Air slot and a chance to be an officer in the Marine Corps. There's nothing that can stop me from making it!

To be a little more precise... you will receive basic instruction on weapons handling. You will have a couple sessions out at the PT table... when I was there it was run by the police Sgt. Anyway, you'll go over clearing stoppages, remedial action, crap like that, as wall as different kinds of carries. You'll know the basics. Later you will have a weapons handling test with dummy rounds. Nothing remotely fun about it, but you will have some familiarization.

You won't get much more than the mundane blanks, cleaning, and weapons handling drills at OCS.

You'll get much more indepth training at TBS. If the rifle training is the same as at PI, then you'll be bored out of your mind by the end of the training evolution. You'll be popping center mass 8 of 10 times from 500 yards with your eyes closed, but still, you'll be bored. BRASS-F for life.

In my defense about the avatar, I was aware that it is in fact a E/F, but I didn't know that the USMC didn't use them...Oops! Hey I guess you learn something new everyday! Thanks for all the info!

Now you're looking better! Don't worry, at OCS I had a candidate tell me that his brother (a Marine) was flying Supes. I told him the Marines don't have any. He told me I was a moron and he KNEW cause his brother was flying them. I had to let it go--by that point in my life I had learned that some people are just dumb and trying to help them is without merit. Sad that I knew more about Marine aviation as a candidate than he knew about his own brother.

In hindsight I wonder if he had the plane or service of his brother wrong....haha...
