Thanks guys for clearing up my above ADO/ALDO question.

Here's one -

What are the 10 nozzle-shaped things in between the rudders on the hornet? I attached an image below that I took at NAS Oceana to help show what I'm talking about. They're right above the engines. Forgive me if it's actually a super hornet.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say chaff/flare...

IIRC, Expendables are on the underside behind the intakes on each side

Anyway the answer to your question... From a separate thread:

And with that comment, I'm standing by to give an infraction/ban the guy that always mentions how if the Navy would do it right, they'd do like the Army and switch to all WO's. If you're lurking - you've been warned.

That's funny. I was talking to some Lts. the other day and we were talking about how the other services did aviation was better. Guess the grass is always greener.

Must have missed that one. Thanks for entertaining my ignorance. :D

Having done both Navy and Army aviation. Navy does it better. The Army comes across as "looser" and the big brass (O-5 and up) don't seem to have the best grasp as how to use their aviation assets.

What would be the problem with someone saying that?

When it gets to the point of insulting any aviation that is not WO-centric is where the problem is.

Is it insulting our just someones point of view? As much as I've heard the old timers preach "you need a thick skin to be in Naval Aviation"; that sure seems like a week thing to ban someone over.

What happens when someone crashes an a/c? Do they get sent to the Antarctic/get their wings taken away/etc. if it was found to be their fault?

...and I'm assuming they'd be in the clear if it was something like a mechanical malfunction, correct?

Depends on too many factors to even try to catalog. Decent reputation and sufficient amount of contrition coupled with a good MMCO and life goes on for most.

It was too painful to read. Whatever.. they guy seemed like a tool.

OK,

I was an Army officer, Infantry not Aviation, and usually don't post in sections that are mostly for winged guys. That guy is a tool and gives us uneducated Army types a bad name. He wasn't abused enough by those of you who know what the hell you're talking about. He's probably a clerk typist somewhere making his mark on the world.

I remember seeing an online database of modern air-to-air kills/combat records. Does anyone remember what site this is? Google Fu is weak, and I've searched to no joy.
