No, I do get it. There is a reason we have a justice system instead of just guns and 'frontier justice'.
Actually, we have both. The original story proves that.
You can't just appoint yourself judge, jury and executioner, it is not right and it is against the law. I am not saying in every case that deadly force is not justified, but if a 'suspect' is not an imminent threat to your or someone else, how is it 'right'?
I can't? Why not? If I have a gun and am willing to negotiate the legal system after I use it, I can do pretty much anything I want. This includes killing someone who my wife says has just raped her. I don't even really care how far away he is. If he is out of range of the .45 that I carry, then I may have to pull the 30-30 off my gun rack to reach out and touch him.
IMHO any man who has commited a rape in his past is an imminent threat to do it again. We may have different definitions of "imminent", but I don't care. Mine works in this case.
You want that kind of justice? Go to the tribal areas of Pakistan, or Saudi Arabia.
Consider who you are talking to. Most of us have been there.
What happens if you shoot the wrong guy, a neighbor jogging past on his nightly run? Don't think it won't happen, how many times have the cops shot someone who they thought was a suspect and it turns out he wasn't? In the dark, adrenaline pumping, a quickly fading target.......take that chance and hit the wrong target, you make a bad situation worse.
Wait, what? I thought that you were telling us to hold fire and let the cops handle it. Now you are telling us that the cops are going to screw up and shoot the wrong guy anyway. Seems like I have a better chance of getting the right guy while he is in my sights. I understand that I am responsible for all the hot lead that goes downrange from my firearm. That's why I train with my weapon.
By taking the law into your own hands by shooting a fleeing suspect who is not a threat to you or anyone else, I think you are violating those principles by which our laws are founded.
Go back and read those founding doccuments again. I think that you will find that the "principles" of doing things on your own greatly outweigh those of waiting for someone else to take care your your business.
