More Maryland Gun Control

The Chief

The Maryland General Assembly is considering two gun control measures with another on the back burner. Maryland is already the most restrictive state, "they" feel more control is necessary.:icon_rage

A. A law to require all ammo to be "encoded". The Law would take effect in 2011, at which time, it would be illegal to own "non-coded ammo" of any type, 22 rim fire included. Trying to track down specifics, will post when I have them.:icon_rage

B. Extend the reach of current law to provide that any person accused of domestic violence would have all [B[/B]of their guns taken away by local police. The current law is that anyone convicted of domestic violence must surrender their weapons but this moves it back to mere accusal. I know that sounds like Germany in 1938, however it is being considered in Maryland. :icon_rage

C. A ban of on all assault weapons was considered last year. According to the State Senate Staffer with whom I talked said they were waiting for the "appropriate time" to bring it back up for discussion. The language in the proposal would outlaw ownership of all assault weapons, example M1 and M1 Carbine included. Those Maryland residents that currently own assault weapons would have to surrender them.:icon_rage

They want to take guns away if ACCUSED of DV??

They might as well attach a rider to that bill to add this to the Maryland state flag:

Is that taking away all guns from the accused during investigation, or forever? Both are ridiculous, but the latter even moreso.

I think Alaska has the best gun control laws - or lack there of. I especially like our CCW requirements, if you can legally own a firearm, you can legally carry it concealed (except in bars, schools, the usual places).

Concur. That was one thing that was good about being in AK.

After you get about an hour north of Anchorage it's general practice to see people with open carry too.

Same in NH. NRA rates ID and NH as the two states most free of gun laws. Little coincidence in my mind is both have very low crime rates.

I go by the BradyCampaign website - states that get F's are the most desirable.

Vote with your feet. Go West, young/middle-age/old man .... except for California or maybe in the future .... Washington. (*sniff*)

I am lobbying to move to Idaho or Montana. Not because I necessarily "want" to -- I love the salt water (too many years in and around it) but because it's becoming the right thing to do to escape the socialist latte-liberal crowd ....

Before moving you might want to wait and see what the SCOTUS says regarding the 2nd Amendment.
