Dangerous Airports

I don't understand how any of those are really dangerous. ?!? A runway is a runway, unless we're talking about the LA.

Only a few of those are actually challenging... hell, I'd love to land at every single one of those strips.

THEY'RE ALL DANGEROUS .... if you don't do YOUR part. :)

I don't know where those are, but I want to fly to most of them.

Agreed.

Some of those remind me of Norman's Cay in the Exumas, Bahamas. I never got to land there, as it was closed and (good) guys w/ guns would be angry w/ you, but I have been there by boat. It's kind of like the Pacific islands, where the runway takes up most of the island. What's extra special about the place is there is a lagoon just east of the runway. There's also a DC-2-like aircraft exactly lined up w/ the runway...about 1/2 mile to the east of said runway...in the lagoon. You used to be able to swim in and around the plane. I guess square grouper didn't pay off that day.

There's a lot of other interesting history about Norman's Cay from back in '80's...when square grouper paid off plenty.

I thought this was going to be a list of dangerous airports not pictures. Glad I was wrong, interesting pictures.

The very last one looks alot like St. Maarten's.

Princess Juliana.. I'm almost positive it is. Never been there, but the beach right before the threshold is a dead giveaway. Look it up on youtube, there's some wicked-awesome video of KLM 747's on short final passing right over the heads of tourists.... and them kitting knocked on their asses from the jet blast. Great stuff.

Better yet, here's a link to one of those KLM heavies touching down:

And a 747 taking off, causing havoc on the beach:

Cockpit video from 747 on final into St. Maarten:

Uh, I was going ask if there's a runway more dangerous than a moving one in the middle of the ocean with a touchdown zone less than 200 feet long....

but then I found the HMCS Jean Chretien...now that's a dangerous landing, I don't care who you are!
