switching to usmc from usn

ok...i was just curious what the procedure was or who to talk to about this type of thing...the thread wasn't meant to start Marine/Navy banter...so let me put it to you like this: does anyone know anybody who has done this or know how it is done. thanks

Know people who have done it, don't know the exact procedure but the best person to talk to would be the Senior Marine in whatever training squadron you are in right now...

Not sure how easy or difficult it will be to do either but don't listen to the nay sayers if it is what you really want to do...

Every Marine officer i've met loves their job and is still just as motivated as when they started out.

I was with you until right about....here.

Not to say that lots of Marine O's don't love their jobs...they do...but this is a bit much. Keep in mind the relationship a good officer should have with you...ie...He or she is not going to bitch about their job/life to their troops. What this indicates to me is that there are some good people in the Corps (duh...) and not that life is a bowl of cherries.

Dont get me wrong I love the Corps I really do, but Im also one of the few guys it seems that can take myself out of the Yut Yut Moto Devil Dog Oorah for long enough to see why some people think we are crazy.

Yes, when I was going through HTs a Navy ENS became a 2nd LT after winging. She then went to TBS and on to the fleet. It is possible, and I would talk to your chain of command if you are interested. Let your flight lead and advisor know then get the Marines involved.

A good place to start is:

a) Do you have, or can you afford a big truck?
b) Do you have a pair of jorts & a braided leather belt?

There's currently a Lt. in my company who did this. After we graduate from TBS he's headed to the RAG. I'm not sure of the procedures...but yes, it's heard of.

An S-3 buddy of mine did this recently. He essentially put in an interservice transfer request and had it endorsed by our DCAG (a Marine O-5 I think at the time). Had to be approved by the Navy for him to leave and by the Marines to "join". He then went to TBS and is now flying F-18D's. Keep in mind this guy did it 6 years or so into his career and was in a community that is/was happy to put guys on a different path. My opinion is that you will probably need some horsepower on your side to convince the people that approve this type of thing that you're worth it. I'm not implying that you're not [worth it] by the way.

I beg to differ. There's only so much a DIVO can do for his Marines when the base facilities are abominable, the MAG CO appropriates per diem his squadrons are legally entitled to for "other" purposes, and the administrative BS required to accomplish simple tasks exceeds that of the USAF by leaps and bounds - Cold comfort if you ask me. Do a deployment amongst them and report back.

One of the worst actions (and likely criminal too) I have ever seen out of a command my entire time in the military. Suprised it did not result in a hotline call, but they were Marines.......:icon_roll

I have never seen a group, whether officers or enlisted, take care of their own like Marines do. Note, I'm not talking about the bureaucracy of the Marine Corps taking care of its people. I'm talking about Marines taking care of Marines.

That is the truth and it follows you even after you get out. Once a Marine always a Marine. Our crewchiefs knew so much more than the ships company crewchiefs because we had to know. There just weren't enough Marines to do each and every job like those swabbies, we had to do it all ourselves. Its way more than the Warrior Culture and it stays with you the rest of life. There are Marines and those that wish they were Marines.
