If going to Iraq, your choice of weapon

Hi guys, I've got a friend who's going to Iraq next month to work for a security contractor flying helos. If you were in his place, what would you carry as a personal weapon. Most of the guys carry a CAR-15, but I thought a H&K MP7 might work. It's smaller, lighter and has a 40 round mag. Your ideas are welcome. edit: I should've mentioned, no problem obtaining ammo for the H&K.

I would carry an AK-47. If you are in a situation you had to use it (I.E. Crash) it will be easier to get ammo from the local area to restock until you run into friendly forces if you survive that far.

What am I doing?

How many people do I operate with at any one time?

Are we all carrying matched weapons or do we operate in a fireteam type configurationg?

How easily can I obtain ammunition from my employer or do I have to scrounge if I dont pick something they provide?

How much time will I spend in the field?

How many other operational units from my company will be in my vicinity in case their are problems?

Finally where am I working?


Till you answer these questions this thread is going to be nothing but conjecture and "I like the _____ because it can _____ better then the _____." Picking a weapon for duty is a very important choice that nobody should take lightly and should research throughly. You could find yourself with a kit designed for CQB patrolling a pipeline or manning a roadblock in which case you may be inappropriately armed. You might be working in an area where the use of a heavy high penetration weapon is innappropriate due to possiblity of collateral damage. Give me and others a better picture of what your buddy is doing besides "working contracted security" and we might be able to offer something here.
