Lieberman is a god within his own party, because he's the sole member of the Connecticut for Lieberman party. (He's also a client.)

I like Obama, but I don't think he has enough foreign policy experience. I could be talked into a slate with him as vice president, but it depends, of course, on the presidential candidate, and so far, none of those have blown my skirt up.
 
I like what I see there, but since he is a Washington outside, without cash flowing out of his arse, he does not have a chance..

Hillary will have a tough time..she is the most polarizing candidate by far and Dems are troubled by her craven and obvious politicking...her calculated pro-war stance, her co-sponsorship of a flag-burning bill with Utah Sen. Robert Bennett( :eek: ), all naked attempts to get a bit more "blue". The nomination will not be sewn up for her.. she willl have to work for it.

It hasn't been mentioned but you know what was the big issue last election was: The 800 lb Gorilla known as The War in Iraq. If things remain as they are in a year, without noticable improvement it will remain the central issue.

So my prediction: look at the money (Barack and Hillary are looking to be the front-runners in fund raising), look at stances on the the war, and look at charisma and the ability to connect with people. Obama has cash, a consistent anti-war stance, and tons of charisma (I think people have brought their crippled children to his rallys to have him heal them). And his big negative...his inexperience? It could be a plus...no voting record to attack.

Because of this, I see Barack as being the Dem Candidate and winning.

I would like to think people aren’t that black and white (no pun intended) in their voting habits, but it’s probably true. Personally, I think Clinton is WAY too calculating and Obama hasn't been around long enough to have much of a record to run on. Yeah, he wrote a few books that people are wooing over and he can speak well and look good doing in (in my hetero opinion), but I hope people would look for more than that. His background of being raised as a Muslim and going through a Muslim education in a foreign country sends off some warning lights in my head. I have to think that will be an issue.

I've obviously done too much hoping about the way people think and vote. This is defiantly going to be one of the more interesting election seasons we have had in a while.

I think he has the broadest experience in politics, at the national and state levels, and he has international experience as well. He has even made a few trips to North Korea as Governor, as a sort of unofficial emissary (very few people can really 'talk' to the NK;s and the current administration has allowed the trips partly because of that).

I can look past his Major League claims since it seems to be one of the few hits against him, at least it is better than a politician who refuses to go into his past at all.........;)

The Economist (a damn good magazine by the way and a whole lot better than any of the American 'News' magazines) had a good point that the US people desperately want to elect a minority or a female into office, especially a black person. They argued that it would validate to most Americans that we live in a free and equal society, a good comparison would be that it would confirm the possibilty of the 'American Dream'. They argued that this was the time for Obama to run since the Democrats will probably take the White House in 2008 and he would be out of the running for 8 years, and he might be yesterday's news by then.

And when women make up roughly half of the electorate, I really think a female cadidate for President is very electable. My Mom would love to see a woman inth ewhite House, she jsut doesn't like Hillary. The question I have heard asked by her and her friends is "Where would she be without her husband?" A prominent lawyer o rsome kind of mover or shaker, but they agree she would not be a candidate for President. I could care less if she was a woman, she is just way too calculating and 'political' for my tastes. She is Slick Willie without the charm or warmth.........:(

Careful with this...We are in fairly good shape fiscally at the moment, we are just over committed. Allow me to take you back to the great days of Clinton when we really were what you say...

Overall, this thread seems to me to be a great example of nothing more than why the democrats have such a terrible time electing a candidate. I still have seen nobody in the party who seriously can bring together the fringes and core of their own party. Obama and Clinton have the greatest potential but as Brett pointed out, are neigh unelectable in the general election. I'm sure of Clinton...write it down...Obama, sold correctly might have a chance...but then again....maybe not.

One little, tiny, nitpicky correction: His father was an atheist, his stepfather was a non-practicing Muslim, his mother is an atheist, he spent as much time in a Muslim school as he did in a Catholic school while in Indonesia, and he's been a member of the UCC for more than a decade. The whole "Muslim background" thing has been cobbled together by people trying to play the Ooh-Scary-Muslim-Comin'-To-Getcha card.

I agree, the other shoe is going to fall in a few years and I don't want to see the massacre that ensues.......:( I am just thankful the Navy was smart enough to buy the Super Hornet and Growler while we still can......
