No OCC Air Contracts

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Just received a call from my OSO who told me that he was having to go down his entire list of prospective SNA candidates for OCC and tell them that he could not submit their package because he had just received word from higher that they would be taking NO AIR CONTRACTS until the January 2008 OCC class.

He said that he would not know if they were accepting packages for that class until May 2007, and that he would get in touch at that time if it was open or if anything changes. They went ahead and cancelled my flight physical scheduled for Thusday, 28 September because it would be all for nothing.

Wasn't a great call, but a stand-up guy, and I am glad he was up front about it.

Anyone else have similar news?

I should have posted this originally, but from what he said, the reason for this is that there is apparently an abundance of PLC graduates that are scheduled to be graduating from college in May 2007 and/or going to PLC-C next summer. This will therefore reduce the number of OCC candidates needed in order to fill the alloted number of air contracts.

Which OCC class had you been planning on attending?

Also, when does this take affect? Does it start with 194 or 195? I am a OCC 194 (January 2007) SNA hopeful and I haven't heard anything yet from my OSO.

I heard this could be the case from my OSO, she said there were only 7 slots west of the Mississippi from the last board and less or none for 194, looks like its none.

Not a Marine or PLC, but it is the same situation for Marine Options in NROTC according to our MOI. No air-contracts until the 2008 timeframe. The MO's at our school just found this out last week.

I got the same news today. My OSO informed me that no air contracts would be available until October (OCC-196). He informed me that I had two choices:
1. I could submit my application for a ground contract and try to get Air slot at TBS -OR-
2. I could wait to submit my application for 196

Haven't been able to get in touch with my OSO today. Do any of you know if this applies to NFO applicants too, or just SNA?

This does not make sense to me. Why would there be air at TBS if they don't want to have any air contracted OCC/PLC/NROTC guys for over a year?

Again, not a Marine, but perhaps the slots come from people that attrite out of OCS/TBS. Maybe the crazies that drop their air contract to go ground open up slots. :D

My OSO said it was for all air (SNA and NFO). I have a meeting scheduled on Wednesday with him to further discuss options.

I spoke with one of my former professors (retired officer) and he said air slots could be available at TBS because of an immediate opening due to attrition (for whatever reason) and "the powers that be" would rather have a newly commissioned 2ndLT to fill the void, instead of someone that has yet to make it through OCS. It sounds like a big gamble to go through OCS and TBS hoping to switch from Ground to Air, but I might know more after meeting my OSO.
