People die in hurricanes, they're no joke. The 4 and 5 are no sh!t scary. It's not like watching a tornado from a few miles away. If a significant storm is headed your way, LEAVE.
Also, tornado is a localized phenomenon which takes out city blocks. A hurricane takes out the whole fricking city. Damage is MUCH more widespread and infrastructure takes a much bigger hit.

There is a morbid fascination with seeing some of natures most powerful displays... in the end, it's not worth it.

Sitting outside in the garage and watching the storms roll in during the summer months in the Mid-West is an EVENT. :D

Hurricane is no thunderstorm, though.

I'm sure I'll go if it's a higher Cat, otherwise... :)

I've been watching the updated tracks. Guess it's time to do some laundry and pack a bag. Just in time for coming back from leave. Let's see...where do I want to go this weekend......?

Uh, no. I'm getting back from leave. But I'm guessing they'll throw me the keys to a TurboWeenie and tell me to get lost.

I'm gonna tell you right now, they're not even close, not even in the same ballpark. A thunderstorm, while powerful and can toss hail out and tornados, can't compare to a hurricane. Ever. A cat 1 and probably 2 is not worth evacuating (unless you're on the beach maybe)... anything higher, get out.

It's like people who aren't familiar with snow, and want to see a blizzard. A blizzard is not something that's fun. Snow storm? Sure. Blizzard? Disasterous.

We're 200 ft. from the beach. :)

What do you do with the aircraft that can't fit in the hangar during a storm? Do you fly a local cross-country? Chain them down?

Hurr-Evac.

When Denis hit, we flew from Meridian to Austin. Spending a few days in Austin does NOT suck.

Yep. They built 3 original ones, and recently finished two more.

I can remember driving by them on our way to P-Cola from Navarre one spring break and thinking, "Man, wouldn't it be a dream to live there." Funny how it worked out. ;)

That's a hell of a drive to base though. Have fun with that.
