Its too far south to hit Jax already, unless it crosses over the peninsula moving back to the east.

Do we HAVE to evacuate if they ask us? Who does the asking/telling, the Navy or the city? I mean, I know our condo tower would be fine and I kinda want to see a hurricane first-hand... :)

I have seen 4. Trust me...there is nothing special about a hurricane.

Having seen Ivan and Katrina up close and personal, you're nuts to stay. Wind, rain, flooding if you're too close to the water. That's it. Being scared ****less if your roof/windows will hold. Then dealing with downed trees, downed power lines, damp, mold, nastiness, no power, no a/c, no water, and spoiled food afterwards. Not worth it.

That said I hope the damn thing stays far enough away from Meridian for me to get the hell out of here.

Hurricane party at the beach condo? ( I've done it in a Cat. I , any higher than that and I'd be scared. )

One of my friends in Daytona had a beach condo. The building held just fine, but the windows didn't, and the parking garage got flooded. He didn't own one dry thing afterwards.

If they're evacuating, it's for a reason.

Cat 1 is interesting. A Cat 2, even more so. Staying for a Cat 3, 4, or 5, well... good luck, especially a 4 or 5. People die in hurricanes, they're no joke. The 4 and 5 are no sh!t scary. It's not like watching a tornado from a few miles away. If a significant storm is headed your way, LEAVE.

Ivan was only a Cat III, look what it did to P-Cola Beach and NAS Pensacola. My father said its the only time he has actually feared for his life in a storm.
I'll never forget driving back the night after. I took the detour through Milton and Pace, which had no power. It was one of the weirdest things I have ever seen in my life. After that, I almost got lost going back to my house because I couldn't recognize anything. Bad memories!

Yep, I evacuated for Ivan, I had just finished Primary. When we came back, it looked like a warzone. I was in Meridian for Katrina. Ridiculous.

There is a morbid fascination with seeing some of natures most powerful displays... in the end, it's not worth it.
