But that Sierra doesn't have the SAR paint job...so who knows?

Yeah, the paint job is kinda weird.

You never know how seriously someone might take noise abatement. "fly over my house at 200' and wake me up from my nap?!?! sure is a good thing i bought that black market SA-7!"

You'd think it would have been a good idea to make the HIRSS removable for missions that don't require a low IR signature.

But Whidbey SAR would be a cool shore tour...probably not too competitive, but cool flying.

Yep, 2 years into my first shore tour. I work in a submarine shop, where I provide them with my aviation ASW "expertise" for what it's worth.

Yeah, I've seen more than a few terminal O-4s over there that I knew from Mayport HSL. At the time it was old school H-3s and a couple C-12s. Not a bad shore tour.

The "ROCK" is/was/always will be Whidbey, in USN parlance at any rate ...

I checked with the SAR C.O. (I'm name dropping, actually ran into him in the Exchange -- chatted and he invited me over for a look-see/pony show) .... and the paint deal is:

When they get a "permanent" -60 for a station SAR birds, they paint it orange/gray .... the ultimate plan is for all "permanent" birds to be white/orange. The all gray ones that I see flying past the final-resting-place-ROCK are "temps" ... borrowed from someone and on "loan" until NAS gets all their birds up and running on their TO&E.

That's according to my newest, best friend ... the CO.

Psychological answer for an inquisitive helo driver follows:

I am a citizen of the world. I live for the "here and now". I live for today. I subscribe to the "what have you done for ME lately? ..." school of thought. I have hedonistic tendencies. I am a survivor.

As such ... when someone "makes me an offer I cannot refuse" ... he/she/it becomes my "newest, best friend".

I have many, many former "newest best friends" ... but I can only have one "newest, best friend" at a time, by definition.
