The only ship that should bear this name is the last LCS after it's decommissioned as it proceeds on a RIMPAC SINKEX.

My opinion is that ships should not be named for living figures.

I don’t necessarily disagree and I too would prefer to veer toward real justice. I just believe we need to be careful not to make it appear like a witch hunt.

The perception of a fair democracy is the bedrock of the system working. It's why we've been fortunate enough to keep it while many other societies devolve into civil war after elections. That already happened in the US once when Lincoln was elected with 40% of the vote.

It doesn't matter who is "right" for charging people in the Trump administration with crimes. What matters is roughly 50% of the electorate will believe it's political foul play / witch hunting and the other 50% will lose faith for holding people accountable when it inevitably fails. Especially when you're going after tricky-tacky white collar crimes that are extremely difficult to prove in court.

Trump never should have been tried for crimes in NYC or indicted by the DOJ after he left office. He was impeached by the House and acquitted by the Senate. The end.

We painted ourselves in a corner with this one.

I don't think we should name ships after people, period. Yeah, George Washington is a historical figure but he also owned slaves and half the Navy is non-white just like the broader US population (until we do the thing we did with Italian Americans and reclassify Hispanic Americans as white).

Clearly angry, the Senate's longest-serving GOP leader said Trump's actions surrounding the attack on Congress were “a disgraceful, disgraceful dereliction of duty." He even noted that though Trump is now out of office, he remains subject to the country's criminal and civil laws.

“He didn't get away with anything yet," McConnell said.

Are you really insinuating that Trump will actually face the music at some point? I think that ship has sailed... we're in a new era now, where high office is primarily for self-enrichment. How long it lasts is anyone's guess, but I don't think we're trending toward an era of greater accountability (I would happily be wrong about that.)

Despite efforts to the contrary, I predict Teflon Don will skate, like he always does. What is stupid is half the country has convinced themselves that's a good thing.
