1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

How well are yall doing on ASTB prep app and Jantzen sim for triple 7s?
I was “locked-on” 55-60% of the time for the individual throttle/joystick portions, and ~30% locked on for the combo on the ASTB test prep app.

I really didn’t like the feel of the Jantzen sim: the throttle doesn’t work quite right

Math, Reading, and Mechanical (OAR) influences ASTB scores.

If your OAR is high already (55+), focus on ASTB portions (ANIT, UAV, and Terrain).
Familiarize yourself with parts of aircraft and basic Navy terminology for the ANIT.
For the UAV portion, try for at least 90%, average 2 seconds. There's a method you can find on YouTube that makes this significantly easier.
For Terrain, aim for at least 90% accuracy (time doesn’t matter). You can get this with the "compass trick".

I was able to practice everything from the ASTB test prep app; in fact it was my main resource, and I would say it had the greatest effect on improving my scores from a 64/7/6/5 to the 69/9/9/9.

If you are able to, get a thrustmaster or X52 joystick and practice the ASTB test prep app simulator. I never improved to the point that many others have gotten to, but a familiarization with the controls I think goes a really long way.

I'm honestly expecting a rather mid-OAR, 50-ish. I am enlisted so aiming for URLO ISPP immediate select but leadership really wants me to pull a 50 7/7/7 so they know I am ready (and so it looks good for my interview appraisal boards).

I see you're a MMN1, are you doing URLO ISPP too?

I actually separated in May in order to finish my degree; would have loved to have been able to put a package in from Active duty, but I was at the very end of a long shore-tour and knew I wouldn’t have an opportunity to finish my degree until back on shore.

I’ve been working on the whole gamut again, including MEPS. Very strange feeling.

Hello, what App did you use to prepare?
Is it https://apps.apple.com/us/app/astb-prep/id1549216388
I am thinking of retaking it
I got 66 8/6/7 on my first attempt, I need the ISEL scores for Pilot. I am thinking of buying the Throttle and joystick and practice for a month before retaking it this time

I don’t really think a month is even needed. Honestly, I think if they offered an hour long familiarization with the setup, people would fair significantly better.

Kinda annoying to spend $100+ to just play with the controls a bit before entering.

In my opinion, unless you really feel you did awful the first time around and would significantly benefit from buying the setup, I think your time may be better spent on other items.

On the other hand, $150 to secure your dream job (or at least make you feel better prepared) is probably worth it.
