15 SEP2025 SNA/SNFO BOARD

We might've talked over comms if you operated the tower/control for Mugu then, I've flown passed it so many times going to and back to Santa Barbara for my cross countries and just going to Camarillo when I was getting my PPL during college a year or so ago back in LA lmao. Funny enough Point Mugu station seems to be down quite frequently haha but one time they cleared me to fly through the airspace and i get to see all the C-130s up closer
I’m just an AT for the Hawkeyes out of Mugu and sadly the only experience with comms is fixing the damn radios for aircrew lol my actual flight experience is only about 2 hours in a Cessna down in SD.

That’s really cool though being in a flying ATC tower basically haha, and without you fixing the radios that plane would’ve been pointless. SD is a great place to fly I heard and as for the Cessna you really haven’t missed out on much they make you start all over again in a C-172 anyways in primary I think

Im an ET and I always wondered how different our rates were because you guys go to Pensacola for A School, while we go to Great Lakes for ATT. Your job sounds cooler 😂

The 172 is in NIFE, the T-6B is in primary

I’ve been curious, how much of an advantage did you think people in your class who had their PPL or significant flight experience had over those with none.
Not even in yet, but I have talked with a couple aviators about this. There is a diminishing return curve, people with significant experience tend to do well initially and then fall off due to unlearning bad habits. People with moderate experience do better, radio comms are tough for newer pilots with no experience. But as the speed of the aircraft increases (down the pipeline) those moderately experienced students will have a harder time. One guy described it like that.

"Don't describe the ocean if you have never seen it." But I have heard this so many times when talking to pilots looking back on their time in Primary.

Hope that isn't too confusing...
