Funeral Honors Detail

I kind of agree! I did like funerals, and I never knew (or paid attention) to who it was until I got there. I’d love to be a fly on the wall on this one though! Will they do the honors even though she’s (I presume) already taken care of?

Not to derail the thread, but I showed up to a funeral and it was one of the greatest Navy Aces of WW2. I remember being shocked that it was me and a reserve SK3 (yes, no third) for this one. Family was really neat, and sort Of glad for the low profile FHD as I guess lots of people hit people had hit him up over the years for souvenirs or been otherwise a little tasteless.

Agree here. It was an amazing opportunity when I did it and you just never know who or what you’ll run into. If I was ever asked/volunteered to do one I would attempt to research the individual and learn more about them.

Me too buddy. At some point my NOSC put out an edict that basically you had to stick to this sh!tty, bare bones script. F that! As soon as I got the name I’d look the guy (or woman) up—military service and obit for the family stuff and say something personal during the service. Take that e-5 funeral honors coordinator! (Actually, one was really good, the other e-5 was a pita!)
