I knew some guys in the early to mid-90's who waited 18 to 30-something months to start. So yes, it has been this bad before. At least they aren't calling folks in an auditorium and pink-slipping 80% of them right then and there.

Ha! They somewhat did this to us yesterday... not an 80% rate. We had a massive APool wide brief yesterday with everyone.
They had colored post it notes on the desk when we got there as a cruel joke. Everyone was checking under their seats, lol.

If anyone was late, pink sheet. A lot of us were there an hour early.
And at the end they did a full uniform inspection. If you got hit, pink sheet.

They've certainly cracked down on small stuff since I've arrived in Apool. Feels like it went from pink sheet were reserved for an intentional or severe error to now folks get pink sheeted for the smallest grievances.

Straight to VRs?

It wasn't to VR specifically, it was to FTS. Many went to VR, some went to HELRESWING (when that was a thing). I bumped into one in Abilene waiting for their broken Hotel to get fixed from -4. We had a couple of them at -60, too.

It depended on what you wanted. There really wasn't a place for them to go afterwards, so a lot of them got out. The problem was they were so junior, they had so few points already banked that the "cost" of continuing to drill wasn't worth it for many. Having 3500 points banked versus having 700 points makes a big difference for Reserve retirement.

Are you PCSing back home as a paid ensign?

That's my question as well. If they're PCS'ing you and keeping you on active duty, that's huge.

CGs is the only branch moving through at a normal pace through Pensacola.

Marines and Navy are backed up.

Does a pink sheet get someone kicked out of flight school, or is there a certain number of pink sheets that will do you in?

I definitely wouldn't have enjoyed my time in Pensacola as much if I had to mind my khakis beyond "these look right" and my flight suit beyond "doesn't smell bad." Being early is a good habit though, primary IPs can sense when you've finished generating briefing materials 90 seconds before they showed up. I wouldn't know anything about that though.

Fortunately, since COVID, most people rarely have to come on base.
Pensacola is still plenty fun (even with some landmines). Its seems like once you class up for NIFE and especially post flight suit friday, the silliness is mostly shafted.

It could be worse, around 2011 I was getting calls from recent college grads that were supposed to commission via ROTC, I guess the Army over-estimated how many they needed as some were commissioned by straight into the NG others were not even given a commission just 4 years of college with no payback needed.

The shitty part was many of the ones I talked to were notified just a few days/weeks before graduation.

We just picked up a couple of guys out of AFROTC in a similar situation. Dudes owe a DSG (Part Time) commitment to the ANG equal to that of their AD AF commitment. Palace Front they call it. It's an amazing deal for these guys. Free college, direct commission into the ANG, front runners for AGR jobs...

I think it was the same year that some of the ROTC grads were sent IRR until they could actually send them to school for their job. I just remember talking to a guy that graduated in June and was told he would be put on AD in January, so until then he was working at some restaurant cleaning tables and such. He had a good attitude about the whole thing saying that other guys had it worse.

Maybe under schools command it is, but once you get to primary and more so advanced, it's not 3 and your out. 3 will usually lead to an ipc, after that an fpc, doing bad on that can mean attrition (but not necessarily), and the dumb pink sheets from schools command can get ignored

I’m in primary now and while 3 might not be a written rule, they do footstomp it. Don’t know if it’s TW specific.

Okay, good to hear some understand that this is abnormal. I am PCSing back home until next summer

In the meantime I’ll use this time to spend time with my family, maybe get my private pilots liscense, and enjoy the perks of being paid to wait. Thanks again everyone. All info is welcome.

Not in the military yet so please excuse me if I interpret this wrong but does this mean you’re getting sent back home for a year as a paid ensign to wait for flight school and not have any military responsibilities instead of having to check into Pensacola and having to wait?
