OU is probably done as far as the playoffs go. Maybe, and it is a giant maybe, they can win the rest and take the Big 12 they might get a look but it would take a lot of different things to happen to get there.

Welcome to college football!

Down goes Texas. Longhorns lose to - 31 point underdog Kansas - 57-56 in OT

Tough day for the state of Texas as A&M falls to Ole Miss. Rumor has it that LSU is looking to poach Jimbo Fisher from A&M - curious to see if he jumps to a program that has won national championships recently or will stay and try to win one at A&M.

Fisher isn’t going to LSU. LSU can’t afford to outbid A&M and at this point A&M is a better job.

In other news, here’s Kansas beating Texas (again) and chanting “S-E-C” in celebration. Too bad they couldn’t hang on against Oklahoma too.

Lane Kiffin has Ole Miss rolling with college footballs version of Moneyball, ie, going for it on 4th down. From ESPN:

We love Kiffin's embrace of analytics. (Note to all football announcers: There is more to analytics than just fourth-down calls, but that's another conversation.) Kiffin has gone for it on fourth down 72 times since the start of last season -- 18 more than any other Power 5 team and 27 more times than any other SEC team.

If he had kicked field goals he would have won by more against A&M Saturday. His offense left a lot of points on the field but got bailed out by A&M’s off night or his weak defense’s hot night.

Maybe LSU coeds can look forward to Joey Freshwater in Baton Rouge?

Ohio State destroyed Michigan State today - good chance they will be either #2 or #3 and have a rematch with Oregon in the playoffs.

On a sidenote, OSU’s QB CJ Stroud is a redshirt freshman- with the #2 and #3 QB’s on the depth chart behind him also freshman. Wonder if one or both backup QB’s will enter the transfer portal after the year?

Oklahoma managed a win against Iowa but they will be challenged by OSU at Bedlam…always a crazy game. I can’t believe Ohio State just spanking Michigan State…that hurt. Wake Forest fell but it looks like Cincy and Alabama will be fine.

Bedlam has now moved way up in importance with Utah’s annihilation of Oregon last night. Very good chance the winner of the BIG-12 is going to the playoffs.

The latest Big 12 playoff picture is comically complicated.

They’d still need to jump Notre Dame. Now, ND hasn’t really played anyone but Cincy and lost. And Cincy hasn’t really played anyone but ND. And there isn’t a good team in the Big12, but I digress.
