King went to flight school at age 50. His biography notes that his flying ability as "erratic" and quoted the commander of the squadron with which he flew as asking him if he "knew enough to be scared?" Still he did an average of 150 a year. Better yet, he commanded surface ships, submarines, and aircraft carriers! Imagine trying to do that today.

The speed limitation for the SR-71 (Mach 3.2) wasn't thrust, it was inlet temperature. So unless there has been a major breakthrough in metallurgy, Mach 6 for an air breather is a ways off. And then there's the obvious question..............why?
