My buddy came out to our field to get some cheap gas. Luckily I was coming back when he took off and was able to join up. And he was generous enough to slow down for me! He and I got winged together a long time ago. Some of y’all might know him. Jughead (Prowler and VT LSO, MD-11 Captain)

Not just a Lancair, but a IVP, and it looks like one with a turbine if I'm seeing the exhaust right. One of my dream planes if I didn't have to worry about money.

Yes, it has a turbine. I forgot what year it was but it’s nice. He is in a partnership and just bought it a few months ago. It’s fast but it’s thirsty for sure. I’ll take my fuel burns instead. But at least Jet A is cheaper ?

I'm getting ready to head off for some TAD/TDY to KBAK (Columbus, Indiana) - we have 50 C182T and 70+ CAP IP's along with 200 USAF active duty Officer and Enlisted UPT candidates for the Rated Prep Program. I get to act as what I would describe as a Stan Dude, making sure the CAP IP's (all are CFI/CFII) get it right, and CAP is flying to AF standards in their instruction and executing the syllabus correctly. The program is centered around applicants to UPT (and OTS if enlisted) who didn't quite score above the testing threshold requirements the first time around (AFOQT and PCSM scores - kind of like Navy AQT-FAR). The candidates get a retake after completion of the program - and its very normal for this istruction to result in a candidates ability to successfully pass and get a ticket to UPT.

Here's a great video of the program through the eyes of an applicant.

This is a really rewarding part of my job.

Cool program, interesting how this compares to the other thread which ended up being a "my IP was a dick" thread.

- Has line up lines: check

- Has APPRECIABLE room on either side of the wings: check

- Road is not moving either laterally (like a carrier) or all over the eff'ing place like a small boy: check

- Cries at the end: check

Only one of these seems to have/be what a Naval Aviator does everyday on deployment. Well except the VP and VQ(j) guys. I hear they cry into their beers at the end of the day, every day. Bastards.

Reporting from AF Rated pilot Prep Program here in Columbus, Indiana (KBAK) - the first class is here (one class per week). Nice group of active duty young people - about half young JO's and half Enlisted (E-3, 4, and 5's). They will get ~9 hours of Part 61 dual in the airplane (C182) and another 4 hours or so in the Red Bird AATD device with their respective CFI. Each student observes the others hop from the back seat. Many of the E's will also get tickets to OTS as well (they all have bechelor degrees). This was just the kickoff in the hotel - uniform for the studs was PT gear. Flight suits (we have a number of enlisted boom operators in the class) or OCP's at the brief/flight.

A nice looking group of eager young people who are delighted at getting another chance / reapply to UPT. The IP's are all CAP IP's - mostly retired AF and airline guys in their 60's and 70's. All volunteering their time - DoD picking up hotel & meals only. Students are all on orders + per diem. Quite a generation gap!!
