What about my follow on orders!?

Ok so the consensus seems to be that orders to HSL-40 are only to HSL-40 and no matter what the verbals were they can change, and apparently do change very often. So being told HSL-east means that I could still end up in Hawaii or sand diego, or some other place. When will I find this kind of thing out, and well can anyone give me a real and valid answer? Or should I just keep on renting an apartment?

You won't know with any certainty until you get your actual follow-on orders. As CK has previously posted, that won't happen until you're almost done w/ the RAG. Again, talk to STUCON at 40 when you get there and they will be able to give you a more definite answer. Until then, I would not recommend buying any real estate.

Yeah, a guy here recently at the Prowler RAG used that same logic, bought himself a house, then got voluntold to go to Japan.

Caveat Emptor,

Ok, Stop freakin' the boy out.

From the HSL rag...if you get assigned HSL East...you're 99.5% chance of ending up in Mayport.

I will stake this claim on the last 2 years of experience from my onwings getting HSL EAST...They knew if they were going HSL-40 or following onto HSL-70. You'll be HSL out of Mayport...

Non-flying objects stay out of this helo $hit.

That's good to know, but I still wouldn't make real estate decisions without orders in hand. I don't think one can argue with that.

As for your "helo shit," son, I was flying 60Bs in Mayport while you were still in Jr High. ;)

-fixed it for you. :icon_wink

to the original guy, all bravo pilots come to -40 for the RAG, with those going to Hawaii/japan/west coast knowing that prior to checking in. if your orders say expect HSL east, you'll most likely go hsl east, like chunks said.

The take-away from this post: If you do not want HSL EAST, do not get Chunks as your on-wing.

When does HSM-41 stop training B guys and only do R's?

(I ask because at some point all B guys will go to 40, but I don't remember/care when).

My understanding was that all of the new bravo selects were going to Mayport and the new romeo selects are going to San diego regardless of your follow on squadron. I have also heard rumors that 41 is doing some cross training right now with both the bravo and the romeo. As far as when they will stop training bravo types, I guess that would be when they finally run out of bravo students and get enough romeos to train solely on the romeo.

Don't forget some HSL Squadrons are moving to NAS JAX as part of the HS + HSL ~= HSM merger.

MB already knows this but his post was a good one to quote. If you're only worried about the squadrons going to NAS JAX in the great HSM swich-a-roo (44+46 in the most recent of many plans), there are places you can move that are a pretty easy drive to either base. The Tinseltown/Baymeadows area (primarily condos and apartments) and NE Jax/Oceanway (single family homes, mostly new construction, although there is definately one existing home who's former owner would be thrilled if you bought it) Both areas are about 30 mins drive time to either base. Oceanway to Mayport will be about 20 when the last chunk of road construction is done.

Exceptional Family Member.

Short of it is, if you have a dependent that has mental or physical issues/disabilities or other "special needs" you are in the "Exceptional Family Member Program".

Which restricts you on where you can go. My ex was a Cat3 or Cat4, which basically meant I could only go to "major fleet concentration areas" like Corpus, Pcola, NoVa, JAX, SanDog, etc..

I could not go be a ROTC instructor at University of Michigan because there were not Military Treatment Facilities/Hospitals within 50 miles. Similar for USC (So. Carolina but that was an issue with a specialist, not a lack of Military Facilities. There is a whole office at BUPERS that deals with EFM, and once the EFM Nazi has decided what your fate is, god help you changing her mind. Regardless of facts.

There's someone on here that is in the last class at -41. He may have already graduated. Based on people I run into from South Park, Bravo guys have been going to Mayport for some time.
