Good thing they didn't get pictures of our group later that night... Cleveland rocks. Except Lebron.

Well, there are still the pics on my camera. Such as the one of us and another drunkenly hugging each other in front of a Lamborghini. By the way, the Cavs are 8-2 so shut it and Lebron averages a shade under 30 ppg, about 8 boards and 7 assists.

Try this link. It's your first installment of your eventual 15 minutes of fame. Enjoy.

Thanks for the link. This is one of the few times where google failed me and I couldn't find it.

What day were you there?
My OR e-mailed all the BDCP/CEC/NUPOC guys up in this area telling us we could come out to see the LCS early last Friday afternoon. I was the only one who showed so I got pretty much a personal tour of the ship from one of the Chiefs. My OR said all the NUPOC guys said they couldn't come because they were studying (at 1400 on a Friday). I'm envious that you guys have other ROTC people to hangout with, I thought I was going to meet the other college program people up here and it turns out they're a bunch of nerds.

Sounds like a good problem for you.

And yes, many are the socially-awkward, anti-poon nerd types (mostly SWO's or the nuke type of course). But there are always the few who remember we are college students who like to chase girls and drink.

We were up there Friday.

You probably met a few of the SWO-wannabees in my unit. They went up to Cleveland on Friday too.

What the hell's the status of the LCS program nowadays? Freedom and Independance are in the water, but the rest are cnx'ed... Are they just going to have those two as weird-Harold one-off "tech demonstrators"?

The state rooms no-shit had carpeting and their own private head with a toilet that actually resembled something you would see in your house, and not at an industrial warehouse.

Some guys in our unit went up on Friday afternoon. Few of us stayed behind to enjoy the Cleveland night scene. LT Briggs gave us a private tour. Lamest thing on the ship? That UAV.

I wish I knew you guys were going to be there I would have invited you to come to dollar drafts. It would be really nice to talk to someone about Naval Aviation without the only response being "So basically you're going to be Tom Cruise from Top Gun?"

As for the UAV the Chief who was showing me around seemed to suggest that he controlled the UAVs, but I thought there was some rule that a rated pilot has to control UAVs. Anyone have any insight on that?

Just had opportunity to watch Air Force and Army face off on that one. Air Force insists on rated pilots (or Navs with Instrument tickets) whereas Army, which has been operating smaller UAVs for the most part (but is getting a Pred-like ERMP*, which is causing a stir) use enlisted operators and mission specialists. Since more and more UAS vehicles are armed, Air Force believes the person pulling the trigger should be a rated pilot who does that for a living. Air Force has tried to take high ground as UAS Executive Agent for DoD and has their guy as head of Joint UAS COE, but Armmy has not budged and Navy may well do both when UCAS-D arrives. Right now, USN and USMC have both enlisted and rated aviators in the mix. I was in a mockup of the BAMS GCS a few weeks ago and it's mocked up with stations similar to a P-3 so that will likely be a mix just like the aircraft it is supposed to supplant. So much for common GCS! Stay tuned for developments and get some popcorn.

*Air Force is developing GCS stations for Pred/Reaper that are more like that of a fighter for familiarity/ease of transition yet Army is having same company develop GCS stations more like popular playstations for....familiarity/ease of transition of youngsters who grew up on same.

..which might give you a hint as to why there are only two of them...and yet, the nav bridge still has that shitty matting.

LCS will indeed deploy with Sierras... except that it will be with one Sierra and maybe one Fire Scout with three pilots and I forget how many AWs. LCS and their mission module concept are a big part of the OAMCM, um, idea, with Fire Scout acting as an augment to the manned helo. Speaking of Fire Scout, current plans are to "fly" it using PFPS and preprogrammed routes with an AW acting as "pilot" and a winged guy retaining weapons release authority.

As for hard and fast dates on all of this, IOC for the OAMCM package is, as of last month, FY11. Future LCSs are also up in the air, with some people arguing that all we need are modernized DDGs, but I digress.
