110521-N-YY999-002 ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE, Md. (May 21, 2011) An aircraft carrier variant of the F-35C Joint Strike Fighter flies over Andrews Air Force Base, Md., during the Joint Service Open House. This is the first public appearance of a joint strike fighter aircraft at an air show. Lt. Cmdr. Eric "Magic" Buus piloted the aircraft. The F-35C is a fifth generation strike fighter with stealth capability and has larger wing surfaces and reinforced landing gear for the demanding carrier environment. The aircraft is undergoing test and evaluation at Naval Air Station Patuxent River. (U.S. Navy photo by Andy Wolfe courtesy of Lockheed Martin/Released)

I know both these guys in the above photo, [but of course I am better looking than both of them :D ], and I love this painting! (It also looks far better in person.)

Although it depicts a Navy Fighter Squadron in Vietnam - VF-151 off the USS Midway - it last week won the Captain Duane Whitney Martin, USAF Award at the 2011 American Society of Aviation Artists International Aerospace Exhibition in Pensacola: "..."for artistic excellence in depicting the conflict in South East Asia, 1964-1974."

This painting is currently hanging at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Fl until August 21, 2011.

Supposedly a Navy blimp near PAX " buzzing " sailboats? Maybe Navy is getting credit for someone else?

You can't really blame the blimp crew for being unable to pass up such an inviting chance to demonstrate irony.

One of the funniest stories I have from flight school was during the Air Nav sim after selecting helos. The sim instructor was "Ace" Eastman and he asked me what I selected. (At the time if you selected helo or P-3's you stayed in your primary squadron for intermediates; I have no idea is that is still true).
I told him I selected helos and he asked me where I had them listed on my sheet. After telling him it was my third choice, he just laughed and said he got his third choice too back in flight school; Blimps! He then went on to tell me how he only got "half a wing" when he finished flight school.

He had me laughing so hard during the sim telling me Blimp stories that I couldn't do a Tacan PtP to save my life. The track of my approach on the display clearly showed when he was telling stories since it would get all erratic since I was laughing so hard in the sim.

So, what I want to know, are the pilots in this blimb only sporting 'half a wing' like my old sim instructor???
