^^^ How they manage without non-skid seems interesting...

I think it's apples vs oranges. I've been told they don't use nonskid because it would be too hard to chip ice off the decks- don't know if that's true or myth, but it seems plausible to me. (anyone? anyone? Bueller?)

That's not the Seawolf. No fillet at the forward base of the sail. Good to see some ASW still going on...

USS Seawolf...

Why not drop Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Elliott Fabrizio an email then. I'm sure he's in NMCI Global. Won't be first time that a PAO type misidentifies one of our own platforms. I bet it won't be last time either.

I hope folding wings with bombs on racks wasn't standard practice in the olden days

I think they're probably mocks ... airshow/static display kinda' thingy ... the only things I saw on the folded wings were rockets ...

Saw an interesting documentary on the A-1, on the Military Channel the other day. About 20 minutes into it, there was plenty of Korean War era footage showing the Spad with real deal "live" bombs on its folded wings! Lifting all those bad boys up required plenty of extra Sailor manpower.

I did a search on Grumman salute but didn't find anything that defined it. Is it when the wings of a Grumman aircraft are folded?

On the A-6/EA-6B it was not unusual that a slight mis-rigging or an extra g or two and you would come out of the wires and only one wing would fold. Then several deck crew would then have to grab the wingtip and have to vigorously shake it up and down to get the wing fold lugs to retract. You then recycle the handle and get them to both come up. Assume it still happens.

It was not a term of endearment for the ironworks products.

Although not an A-6 derived platform, nothing pisses the handler off more than a stiff winged E2 or COD. I think only a palmtreed 53 would piss him off more.

Palmtreed 60s are high on his shit list if I remember though.

Rotors stuck in the "flight" position. Looks like a palm tree. Not sure if it's a universal term, but I heard it on my nugget cruise and it stuck with me.

Helos are really not that big folded up, but are HUGE in terms of deck space when spread.

I can think of one thing - a palmtreed H-3 that was supposed to be the planeguard helo for the flyoff of all the jets after pulling out of San Francisco following Fleet Week. When it was the backup.
