Bell X-5....

great grandaddy of F-111 and F-14 inspired by Nazi blueprints.

Preceeded by the Messerschmitt P.1101....and led to the Grumman XF10F:

That sounds like a great place to be skeds-o

At the time that pic was taken (Or so it appears) Commands owning aircraft onboard Moffett were VP-9, VP-19, VP-31 (RAG), VP-40, VP-46, VP-47, VP48, and VP-50. 9 or so A/C each (except VP-31 had more). An Airforce Rescue detachment (C-130's, H-3's w/PJ's), an Army spy unit, and NASA AMES.

To AA75....yes.....that was a super super secret squirrel project out in the hinterlands of Nevada called Tacit Blue..... MIDNJAC....that was a variant of the F-84 Thunderchief with a turboprop...I don't know a lot about it except remember reading that it was one of the LOUDEST A/C ever according to the placard displayed.

Whats with a the EGA on the left patch? Is that the equivalent to a squadron patch? Why is Master Chief wearing it? Even the marines in my VT squadron have VMT on their squadron patch... Unlike the rest of us...

081218-N-7571S-104 GULF OF OMAN (Dec. 18, 2008) Cmdr. Scott "Scotty High" Starkey, foreground, lands an SH-60F Sea Hawk, as Cmdr. Mark "Bad Andy" Truluck prepares to land an SH-60F Sea Hawk on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) after in-air change of command ceremony. Starkey relieved Truluck as commanding officer of the "Tridents" of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron (HS) 3. Theodore Roosevelt and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8 are conducting operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility and are focused on reassuring regional partners of the United States' commitment to security, which promotes stability and global prosperity. Totally missed this one. That's just f'in cool. If I'm ever the outgoing CO <shudder> of a reserve squadron, you can bet your ass this is how I'm gonna do it!

You forgot VP-91 (reserve squadron w/12 aircraft).

<<Picture of best VP squadron mission statement ever>>

Seriously: why can't we just make all our mission statements as down to earth as this? Clear, concise, and no delusions about what the actual purpose is.
