40 years ago tomorrow night, I was both an observer and a MigCap participant in the famous Linebacker II “Christmas Raids” designed to end the Vietnam War and get our POWs home.

But it didn’t come cheap. On the only night I participated – 20 Dec. ’72 - we lost six B-52s and one Navy A-6A (with crews KIA or captured)... at least three of which I saw the SAMs hitting and the aircraft go down.

Anyone see this at Whiting the other day~ someone said it was a TPS bird in for paint~

The various paint jobs on my beloved Clown Copter make my eyes rain. Not holding that against Vector - they do some pretty amazing work rebuilding the birds that we abuse the crap out of every day. (188 just came back from Vector last week, and I swear it had that new Bell smell. I can't wait to take her out and "make her look mean". :) )

I'd like to see them paint it black (hit it, Jim123!) so that whenever we go out of town, the conspiracy theorists can theorize.

Good thing there wasn't a reverse, "Final Countdown" action here with the Akagi and her sister ships not far off the coast.
