Bad Gouge
The Navy accepted the first Texan into its inventory in November 2002 and plans to buy 328 aircraft. So far, the Navy has procured 49 Texans. Of those, 31 have been delivered to Training Air Wing 6 at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla. for NFO training. The remaining 278 aircraft will be delivered by fiscal year 2013 and used for pilot training at NAS Whiting Field in Florida and NAS Corpus Christi in Texas.
That means that by 2013, all 278 will have been bought and delivered. The phase in plan begins in Whiting, then to Corpus. You only need about 50 or so to stand up a VT squadron.
This won't help anyone here in flight school, but the latest expectation, absent yet more CNO level abuse of the T-6 program, is that between 2007 and 2008, SNA's will start T-6 flying at Whiting, at Corpus between 2009-2010. Subject to change when the Navy wants to buy another Carrier or some more Super Hornets. However, given the programs Congressional support and the realities of defense Contracts, and the age of the T-34C, I'd suggest that the 2007-08 target is probably pretty good.
Some of your guys, will be up for IP orders by then, so you can head back to Whiting and fly the T-6 to teach Naval Aviation, the next generation.
The Texans won't get to Texas until much later, ironically enough! :icon_smil
towbubba said:2013 is when they expect to have the Texan at Whiting! Why does everything in aviation take so friggin long to implement. I guess that means they will be improving it somehow with beta or something. Right now it sounds like it will be around about the time of the new Cobra and Osprey. :icon_rage
