I got an email today from Expedia/the governor of Texas for a possible $$refund.. maybe this will apply to someone else too....

Customer Communication - Important Information Regarding Your Texas Hotel Booking

Dear Expedia Customer

Our records indicate that you recently stayed at a hotel in the state of Texas on or around the time of Hurricane Ike. On September 12, 2008, Texas Governor Rick Perry signed a proclamation that entitles individuals meeting certain criteria to a refund of all amounts paid for hotel/motel taxes for stays between September 8 and 22, 2008. If you feel that you may be entitled to such a refund, please read below for all qualifications and next steps that need to be completed by you.

Qualifications:

You must have checked into your hotel between September 8, 2008 and September 21, 2009
AND
The hotel you stayed in must be located in the state of Texas
AND
The hotel you reserved was an Expedia Special Rate hotel (ESR), prepaid to Expedia at time of booking
AND
One of the following three criteria also applies:
You are a disaster relief worker, assigned to assist with Hurricane Ike relief in the state of Texas
OR
You live in one of the following Texas counties : Anderson, Angelina, Aransas, Archer, Austin, Bee, Bell, Bexar, Bowie, Brazoria, Brazos, Brooks, Calhoun, Cameron, Cass, Chambers, Cherokee, Collin, Colorado, Comal, Dallas, Denton, DeWitt, Ellis, El Paso, Fort Bend, Franklin, Galveston, Goliad, Grayson, Gregg, Hardin, Harris, Harrison, Henderson, Hidalgo, Hill, Hopkins, Hunt, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Kaufman, Kenedy, Kleberg, Lamar, Lavaca, Liberty, Lubbock, Matagorda, McLennan, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Navarro, Newton, Nueces, Orange, Panola, Parker, Polk, Potter, Randall, Refugio, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, San Patricio, Shelby, Smith, Starr, Tarrant, Titus, Tom Green, Travis, Trinity, Tyler, Van Zandt, Victoria, Waller, Walker, Webb, Wharton, Willacy, Williamson, Wise, Wood

You live in one of the following Louisiana counties: Acadia, Allen, Ascension, Assumption, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Cameron, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Evangeline, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, Sabine, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Vermilion, Vernon, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana. Calcasieu, Catahoula, Franklin, Grant, LaSalle, St. Helena and Washington.
If you meet all of the qualifications listed above, you are likely entitled to a refund of amounts paid for hotel/motel taxes for your hotel stay. In order to process this refund, we need the following information from you.
A completed State of Texas Hotel Occupancy Tax Exemption Form- can be downloaded and printed from http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinfo/taxforms/12-302.pdf
A cover letter indicating your Expedia itinerary number, first/last name, e-mail address and phone number where you can be reached at between 9am and 5pm PT

Both of these items must be forwarded to Expedia.com at:

Once your paperwork is received and approved, we will process your refund within 3-5 business days and it will reflect on your credit card statement with 1-2 billing cycles.
