Help Determining OCS App Strength

These may be true but this is not always the case. Im due in Quantico June 1st with an aviation contract and I graduated with a 2.4 in accounting so not all is lost. My PFT was only like 280s as well. However, my recommendations saved me. Former naval officer professor on campus vouched for me who also helped get my dad commissioned as an officer. Im fairly certain the ROTC commander on campus put in a good word for me as well as I was pretty friendly with the ROTC guys on campus (they were jealous of my 365 1RM bench ;)).
My Grandfather was a 4 star which I think sold me to the selection board. My university(Villanova) is also very well respected in the Navy and I think that gave my app some sway.

So dont let your undergrad GPA get you down. Your OSO realized that undergrad GPA does not define you as a person.

USN boards don't work like USMC boards, a 2.4 GPA for the USN wouldn't even be submitted or accepted by the NRD, my understanding from the OSO I knew is the OSO's thoughts have quite a bit of pull, and the USMC boards are regional with a set number for each area, USN is nationwide if every selection comes from one NRD good for them, if a NRD gets none, well they have to work harder.

You can't submit if you don't meet the min GPA requirements.

This is not 'Nam, this is Navy recruiting. There are rules.

This is my first post on this site - still learning the rules of the road. I am looking for some insight on my chances of receiving a Pro Rec Y for Intel/IW/IP. I have a weak GPA and OAR score, but was hoping some of my other stats would pick me up. I graduated with a B.S. in Criminal Justice w/ 2.76 GPA in 2007, prior to enlisting in the USN as an intelligence specialist. I didn't go the Officer route from the beginning because, you guessed it, my GPA and degree. Have I done enough over the past 6 years to get picked up? Should I write the board a letter explaining my undergrad GPA and where I am at in my life today? If so, how should this be done?

Here are my Stats:
IS1(IDW/SW/AW) 6yrs (made IS1 in under 4 years)
Enrolled in Masters Intel Studies Program (Proj. Grad: Apr 2016)
Intel Studies Graduate Certificate - 3.89GPA
B.S. Criminal Justice - 2.76GPA (Averages to 2.9GPA w/ grad work)
LoRs: 1x O-7(SWO), 1x O-6(USA Intel), 1x O-4(USN Intel)
Strong CO recommendation (O-6, USN Intel))
Appraisals: O-6(Intel),O-5(Intel), O-5(Intel), O-4(NFO)
OAR: 45
Awards: Senior SOY '14, SOQ, JSAM, NAM, LOC
Honor Grad of Intel Specialist 'A' and 'C' Schools
Evals: EP,EP,EP,P,MP (P-MP New E-6)
Outstanding last 3 PFAs

In cross roads, my OR is pushing me to submit to the next board with what I have so far:
SNA hopeful
FAA Airframe License
GPA 3.52
ASTB OAR 48 5/6/4
LORs: USN (R) LCDR, USAF (R) Col., Employer VP, Fire Chief, ATP/CFI
Volunteer Firefighter STA77 100+ volunteer hrs
PPL 45 hrs

My only concern is the ASTB score, which I want to retake it. Thoughts? Advice from previous guys/gals who got picked up?

Thanks

The GPA and aviation experience help, but if you feel confident that you can improve your ASTB scores I say go for it.

Yeah I am planning on it. I know I can improve based on already having experience from take one. Current ASTB scores are the only thing that is bugging me.

Your resume' is fine [except], for SNA your ASTB scores are problematic. You can try once with what you have, then if ProRec N... slam dunk an ASTB retake (>7 7 7), and you'll then be competitive for the following board.:)

Good luck!;)

LORs are from previous employers. I unfortunately don't know any O's well enough to start asking for a LOR from them.
MEPS cleared and squeaky clean criminal and drug history.

I guess my main concern is I don't have the stellar record that proclaims my ability to lead (no boy scouts, fraternities, NROTC, or school related sports)....

Neither did I. I have management/leadership experience through my jobs, but no volunteer service, special organizations, etc. background. Also, I didn't have any O references, and I got accepted for SWO from the Feb board. Get people who can speak to your character, make what you have stand out, and you'll most likely have a pretty good shot. Take a look at my stats for comparison.

I am a little worried about the fact I smoked Marijuana like three times in highschool, and the fact that while I have some leadership experience I do not have a ton. Given that information how does my package look?
