Flattening the curve in the beginning (2-3 weeks) is appropriate. Flattening the curve indefinitely (6+ weeks?!) in areas with only a few cases is an overreaction, and is causing more harm than good.

Health officials predicted hospitals being overrun, and in 90% of the country that NEVER happened.

And elective surgeries are a lucrative business, always have been, which is why they’re a significant source of revenue. That’s not going to change anytime soon.

Not sure what you're getting at here, elective surgeries have been non existent the past month. Where is the surprise? How many ICUs does the Mayo Clinic run?
Maybe some, elective surgeries could have been continued?
So we should give out Medals of Freedom to boob job customers during national disasters?
You know, not all “elective” surgeries are cosmetic or quality of life centric. Some can absolutely be life saving or have substantive impacts on the longevity of a life.

I'm obviously joking a bit, but having a key part of national medical disaster response being a steady influx of elective non-disaster related procedures in order to keep the hospital doors open...that's not going to work well, as we can see. What happens when we really get crushed with a pandemic? When COVID mutates or joins up with the flu this Fall, or COVID20 comes crawling out of a bat cave?

Hospitals that are getting crushed by COVID are also getting crushed financially. Someone suggested otherwise upstream in this thread, but not true at all.

While both health systems have plenty of hospitalized COVID patients to care for, these patients don’t make them nearly as much money. Overall, COVID care likely costs hospitals money, instead, because they are paying out more in bonuses and overtime to their overworked staff, paying inflated prices for harder-to-find personal protective equipment needed to care for these patients, and have diverted hospital beds from other, more lucrative areas of the hospital, said Marianne Udow-Phillips, founding executive director of the Center for Health research Transformation (CHRT) at the University of Michigan.

They were given it because of their artistic accomplishments-you didn’t like it because you disagree with their politics...but that’s not why they were awarded it. Rush got it exactly because OF his politics...wouldn’t be surprised if Hannity got one too.

What about his artistic accomplishments as a radio personality? He’s been inducted into both the National Radio Hall of Fame and the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. You don’t like it because you disagree with his politics.

His “art” IS his politics.

that’s much different than say DeNiro.

I wouldn’t have a problem with someone I disagree with politically getting it like Clint Eastwood
