They are persecuting a recruiting office the same way a porn shop or liquor store or tobacco store would be. That's a whole lot of crap.

They can't. Brett was right, hte federal government and its laws trump state and local ones. Berkeley is SOL with a bill that is nothing but propoganda.

As a Berkeley (note there are three Es) Alum I will share my insights:

In fact, I would say more students come from more-conservative Southern California...probably to get away from their parents. Cal professors discovered Plutonium, were instrumental in building the Atomic Bomb and continue to run 3 of the 9 DOE National Laboratories.

I've actually heard similar opinions of UC Berkeley, its seems to be more tolerant than everyone makes out. The above, however, depends on which part of southern california you are speaking of. If we're talking pretty much anywhere in San Diego, parts of the OC, and parts of the IE then yes, technically they vote majority republican. Other areas such as LA county and San Bernardino lean heavily liberal democrat. The overall vibe down here seems fairly liberal, not conservative... but again, it depends on where you are. I agree that socal may be more conservative than berkeley however.

I'm also a berkeley alum, and I will definitely walk through berkeley in my choker whites after I get commissioned. The students there for the most part though aren't that crazy towards military personel as much as they are toward the war, but of course there are still plenty of those who are just tree huggin haters who are too busy hugging trees and too busy being self-righteous to see the world the way it is.

I just thanked them for welcoming me to campus. hell got slapped same day and all i could do was laugh shake my head and go to my car. Got the ol mandatory career fair there the 13 of FEB hopefully it goes well this time and I'll get out alive and with luck one or two wanna beees

damn I knew I should've gone to career fairs while I was in college, maybe that way I would already be flying in the Navy. I had a full time job offer waiting for me to graduate in my junior year of college so I didn't bother going to career fairs and such. if anything, I definitely missed out on you getting spat at and slapped, thats for sure haha. I've been doing my share of trying to recruit for the Navy and been telling them all "i know a LT in San Jose that's really good so if you're interested, I'll make the phone call" but as you can tell from no phone calls from me, no luck in that department.
career fair on the 13th? that actually sounds fun, maybe I'll join you next year after I get commissioned, if I can get leave that is.

BS I know you're Canadian and come from a Parliamentary system but in the United States we are a republic which democratically elects representatives to carry out the peoples business. The reason we do this is so that the people aren't charged to vote on every little measure which comes up.

Additionally it restricts the power of moonbats like our friend quoted above, and her kind, from trampling over the rights of the minority. Our Constitution is written very specifically to protect minority interests.

Jefferson said it best "A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.”

I don't Frau Moonbat above, but I do have to agree with her support of republicanism, even if it is for misguided reasons.

I respectfully disagree with the above.

Canada is a federal parliamentary democracy with constitutional monarchy.

While MPs are elected by the people, the senate is appointed by the Governor General. The Prime Minister is the head of the majority party in the House of Commons. The sovereign is still the Queen of England. Canada is hardly the exceedingly liberal republic that is the United States.
