What people should take from this, aside from a good laugh, is that in parts of "the rest of the world" they feel that they are experts on the US.
I just sat next to a German guy on a flight from London to Munich who spent the entire flight talking about what was wrong with the US Government....yet, when I asked him about how his Parliament system worked in Germany, he couldn't really explain it well.
In other parts of the world that are NOT only bordered by two neighbor countries and two oceans, they don't understand the unique nature of the US both politically and culturally.
So, this kind of scenario probably makes sense to someone who has grown up in a country that is bordered by 10 other countries, all of which are completely different in culture, language, ethnicity, etc.
