FY12 STA-21 Applicants

breadandbutter

FY-12 Specwar Alternate
They ABSOLUTELY will not let you extend passed the age requirement regardless of when you birthday is within the semester. The instruction wording is something along the lines of, 'must be commissioned before their ____ birthday' and not, 'commission when they are____' Not trying to sound rude, but I got hit in the head on this too.

I know that for the specwar option waivers up to 24 months are pretty much automatic. I don't know much about other options, just wanted to put out that waivers are not unheard of.

Its good to see this thread picking up some steam. So what I heard is there will only be 65 selectees. This is my second year applying Pilot/Core

I'm applying for HR. I need to commission by age 29 and I'm 26 right now. Won't start school until I'm 27. What is the purpose of age requirements? I can understand for URL but for RL? really?

That is correct for every community. The rule still applies just with the new age the waiver approves you up to.

I have never seen a age waiver turned down.

There's this guy here that says that he heard from some lady at the Exchange who overheard someone else say while looking at dog food that STA-21 quotas are up from 115 to 2000 now. Of course this could also just be another rumor.

SWO/ED for the 3rd time. I've been an alternate twice, hopefully the third time's a charm.
ALT for SWO/ED twice, chances are you will get it this year. You must be doing something right, can you post your stats. This is my second year applying for SWO/ED, 4th time applying for STA-21 in general. I was trying to go nuke but I got too old.

QUESTION: Can I change my degree from what I selected on my online application if I am selected?

I changed my degree from what my online application said after I was selected. After NSI I changed it again. They don't care (as long as you're NOT a nuke) what your degree is in as long as you graduate within time/age requirements.

I generally don't like posting stats because I don't think it gives a clear picture of the "Total Person" and can sometimes be misleading, but since you asked I'll lay out the basics. I think that being an alternate twice gives me a better than average chance, but I'm worried about the quotas this year. My biggest detractor the past 2 years was that I had no EDO support as far as interviews or LOR's go. I was at a small/isolated command, so my in-command board was with LT's and I didn't have an out of command board. This year I had all O-5's in command (1 EDO), and an all EDO out of command board (O-7, two O-6's, and an O-5). I couldn't have asked for better CO Rec/interviews/NRB Chair Rec's, but who knows.
