IFS Changes? (PPL wavier)

So I’m currently awaiting to pick up flight school, I’ll pick up in the next few months according to the current state of things. NIFE is going into effect the week after 4th of July, and will consist of 4 weeks of academics followed by the flying portion (I’m assuming another 2 weeks). It is supposedly combining IFS and API into one program, and all those who are IFS complete (but not API complete) or have a PPL or higher will be required to do the academic portion but not the flying portion. This is the current information the students have at the moment but updates are still happening, so I can try to bring any new information as it comes.
Where did you find that information?

Our company commander disseminates this info to our platoon commanders and my platoon commander told us. Keep in mind that things are subject to change and nothing has been made absolutely official yet, but this is the most current info.

Any mention when physiology and the dunker happens? After the flying portion?

Water survival is now a separate event that you complete while waiting to pick up. It’s about a week long ending with the mile swim and CPR instruction. The dunker itself was usually done towards the end of API, but now that we are doing NIFE I’m sure you do it somewhere in that curriculum. I’ll find out soon as I’m picking up swim in 2 weeks. And what do you mean by physiology?

Land survival, hypoxia, disorientation, parachute training, etc...

An update to NIFE,

The implementation of NIFE has been pushed back to an unspecified date (Previously set to start after 4th of July). There were supposedly issues with contracts and funding which are being dealt with so IFS and API are still functional as of now. A rumor I heard was it would be pushed back around a month, but I’m finding it increasingly difficult to trust certain information I receive.

Nah, this is pretty standard in the Navy. If the program is on time there’s something wrong with it. If it starts later than initially slated for, there’s probably something still wrong with it.

Trust me I know. The Marine Corps is worse about it lol

Thread drift, but I think that learning to fly gliders would be better prep at a lower cost. More stick and rudder, and always aware of energy management. It would be a worthy experiment for the navy to route some studs through that pipeline

Before Primary, I would have said nahh get your PPL. But then I finished Primary with a buddy of mine who went to the Air Force academy and had a ton of glider time. He finished Primary with a 75 NSS and selected Jets. In conclusion, either would help.

Plenty of dude do just fine and get jets without any prior time. Plenty of IPs around here will tell you that by the time your grades matter, everyone is pretty much on a level playing field with each other.

They did that during the API phase. If you had a PPL, you skipped IFS. Not a new idea.

The point of my post is that NIFE doesn’t let anyone skip IFS. They’re only “currently” doing it to increase throughput in the short term.

Strange. Seems like a way to burn money on people that have a license already. Unless NIFE has a specific syllabus. I know they already took solos away (RIP NFOs).
