What about SWO board? I still can't believe people would decline slots after all that..

Some decline due to NPQ, some just change their mind, some aren't told about the years required, it is a variety of reasons.

The only thing I saw was it said Pilot, but then again Pilot is the most restrictive so you are likely to lose more.

I got a call from my recruiter and I thought it was going to be about my final select letter. Well... it wasn't good news. He called to say that I somehow failed the depth perception test. I'm kind of in dis-belief at this stage, I've always had better then 20/20 vision and have never had depth perception issues before. He said he's going to check into the possibility of being able to have it retested at a civilian doc, but he's unsure if that's an option.

Has anyone else ran into this problem? Is it possible to be retested and get a waiver from a civilian doc? I hate to be negative about meps, but hopefully they’ll give me a shot at being retested at an actual doctor vs disqualifying me based off a 5 min test that was rushed during meps.

Every person I have had that failed depth perception has always said "I have never had depth perception issues before".

Difficult but it really depends on do you really have depth perception issue, did you just fail at MEPS or did you miss everything?

What happens if you get a thumbs up and go to OCS on a SNA contract then fail at OCS and lose SNA, will you be happy as an NFO or SWO? That has happened, people jump thru hoops get test done, get cleared, then fail at OCS.

The AFVT depth perception test is not reliable (at least in my case) since I failed on one attempt and then passed 100% on a second attempt. I suggest you get a second opinion. If the civilian eye doctor says there aren't any problems with your depth perception, then you should question the results at MEPS. I was able to get a retest at MEPS, but I had to take the same test (AFVT). For the second time around, I got better instructions and passed all the rows. I wish MEPS would administer a more reliable depth perception test since the stakes are so high--peoples' career aspirations depend on it.

This is what I am terrified of. Failed correction at MEPS, passed at optho consult. =/

The depth perception tip: it is never the first or last circle. The last two blocks I had to literally focus on each circle on each line to figure it which one it was sticking out.

Ah ok, makes more sense. Still hoping for a SWO board in the near future and a SWO-OCEANO/OCEANO board.

Well I have an appt. with the eye doc today at 3pm. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Hopefully meps was just a fluke. Definitely nervous, but it's hopeful to see that this has happened to a lot of guys on this forum before and they pass the second time around.

FS letter for December 2nd. I am getting it rescheduled since I will be in school and said my earliest date was Jan 1st on my application. Also, I am not technically qualified for aviation, yet, either.

I swore in last Friday! My hand was sore from all the signatures (jk). :D

One thing that worries me is that they are trying to set up a preship PRT for me and the other person in my class. I didn't realize this was even done and they were vague about the requirements when I asked. All they said was: "You are not going to fail."
Are they doing this now and what is the requirement to pass? I'm not trying to aim low but I would like to at least be certain I meet it!

Your OR needs to read the instructions per 1131.2E CH2 chapter 8 section 080413

a. IRR Officer Candidates (non-collegiates) are not required to participate in the Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) Program or any physical training conducted by recruiting personnel. However, should an IRR Officer Candidate (non-collegiate) wish to voluntarily participate, he/she must complete a Hold Harmless Agreement and Release from Liability Certificate (NAVCRUIT 1100/27) prior his/her Initial Fitness Assessment (IFA). The recruiter/OACR will retain these forms in the candidate's folder.
Here is why it is a bad idea to do this, if anything happens to you, twist ankle, knee, stub toe or ANYTHING, that becomes a change in physical status, which means you might not be going to OCS and very well could lose your spot depending on the injury.
I have seen this happen, before the new instruction came out a person in IRR status was doing the PFA, tripped, twisted knee, doc said 6 months before cleared, he lost his spot, all his medical bills were on him.
Another person injured their shoulder a year later, they were a collegiate, doc visits, rehab, OCS date pushed a few times, continued to get paid full medical care, eventually made it to OCS.

Tested Friday - Randot Test - 9 for 9. Doc said I had no depth perception problems. I have no clue what happened at MEP's, but I'm glad that it's all cleared up now. My OR said I should be good to go now for SNA.

Congratulations on passing. Also, welcome to the world of being terrified of the OCS physical.

Shoot, amen to that! (I was terrified). I'm still nervous that I'll somehow have problem with the circles when I do my OCS physical. Sounds like they'll let you do the "randot" test if you have trouble with the circles test though so I'm optimistic.

From what I understand, I will need to be released from the Nuclear community by Admiral Donald if I am to be a SWO. At this point in the process, can I assume that I have been or will be released?
