Gun Laws in your state

Well considering that the rifle holding "Soviet" in the picture is me, I doubt she had the exact same poster in her office...

I did cannibalize several old Soviet propaganda posters to make this one though... and supposedly "The People and Army Are One" was a popular phrase on posters in the USSR.

It's like like the hippies and code-pinkers in Berkeley. There is no arguing logic with these absolute and unequivocal morons.

Yeah, I was in the process of posting some to counter those fuck-tards and decided to punch myself in the face instead...it was over a lot faster and the pain wasn't quite as severe.

This one has to be my favorite:

Where is the logic in equating gun ownership with freedom?

This one was pretty solid as well.

LizCoro says:
Why does 'one' need a semi-automatic gun to protect their home?

Home defense isn't really a pertinent point in a discussion on concealed carry. I guess she's right in that a pump action shotgun is very good for that job.

Texas CHL Thread

I am in the process of renewing my CHL (hard to believe that it has been 5 years now) and in the process I realized that to order my renewal paperwork I was charged a $0.00 fee.

This is a far cry from the $150.00 I paid 5 years ago, so I did some digging around and found the fee structure on the Texas DPS website.

Active Duty Military pay NO FEE for original issue licences OR renewals.

For those stationed in Texas I would urge you to get your CHL here if you plan on getting a license.

Texas CHLs are recognized in 28 states and the training is very good.

Guns in Hawaii: really?

So, according to what I have read online, Hawaii is a "may issue" state that in reality almost never issues concealed carry permits, right?

And they don't recognize reciprocity with anyone else, so I would have to stop carrying concealed when I make it to the islands. . .?

And what's the deal with this whole gun registration bit? I have three days to register all my weapons after they arrive?

How much of a PITA is all of this and do I run the risk of running afoul of the law if I just pack all my guns for shipping and deal with everything once I get there?

From the Texas DPS website that statesman posted:

Traveling on Texas Roadways with Concealed Handguns
Traffic stop policies vary among law enforcement agencies. Your local police department or sheriff's office can tell you what to expect if stopped while carrying a handgun within their jurisdictions.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers will ask you:

Whether you are licensed to carry a concealed handgun
Whether you have the gun with you
Where the gun is located
A trooper may disarm a licensee anytime he or she feels that safety is at risk. The trooper will return the gun at the end of the traffic stop when the threat to safety has passed.

When stopped by a law enforcement officer, DPS recommends that you:

Keep your hands in plain sight
Cooperate fully with the police officer
If you have a gun with you, tell the officer as soon as possible
Don't make any quick movements, especially toward the weapon
At night, turn on your vehicle's dome light

I believe it's a matter of taking your guns down to the police station and registering them. Kind of a pain when you're over in Kailua and the police station is down on Ward in Honolulu.

FWIW, I never registered my gun(s), mostly out of ignorance. I took my .45 to the range over at Koko Head and shot it w/out anyone saying a word. Smart? Probably not, but I'm just sayin'. I did have buds that took their weapons down to Honolulu to register and it wasn't too big a deal as long as one of the Bruthas was there to fill out the paperwork.

None of which is any damn business of the police officer. If I got pulled over for speeding and the cop started asking me questions about guns, he would get "None of your business...got a search warrant."

There is no reason to inform the police officer that you are doing something within the confines of the law.

I am sitting here on a bed drawing breath. Care to know about that too?

I have done it both ways, telling the cops that I have a weapon/permit/location, and letting the stop go without saying a word. It just depended on my mood, really.

go ahead and do that if you want, my dispatch (if they're paying attention) will come back that you have a concealed handgun license and if I find that you didnt tell me I will not be a happy camper.

Also back at the station, I have a nice yellow form that I fill out that goes straight to DPS. It states what you failed to do when stopped by me and bye bye goes your handgun license.

I have done this to a few folks by the way.

Do it as you choose.

To vent, I also have a hard time wondering what compels people to make our job (the police) that much harder. As an example of above, you can tell me that you have a license and tell me where your weapon is and that'd be the end of it for me and have that 50/50 chance of leaving with a warning. Or you can start yammering about your "rights" and such and guarantee you at the very least a hefty ticket. Often times much more than that. Some folks will say that I'm just giving the ticket to get even. In fact I give tickets to hecklers and everyone that gives me attitude because I want paper documentation of the traffic stop in case they come back and complain. I've seen people bitch to our supervisors about an officer's attitude AFTER they got a warning! Just be forewarned, we're humans too.

It was my understanding that with a Texas CHL you are required to inform the officer that you have a CHL, even if you are not packing, and if you have a weapon, where it is in the vehicle.
If I remember from my class correctly you can have your CHL suspended or revoked for failing to mention this to the officer.

I look at it this way - we signed up to follow these rules when we applied for our CHL, so we follow them.

You can not be a "happy camper" until you are blue in the fucking face. And you are not going to get someone's handgun permit unless you can prove they had a gun on them at the time.

You might want to read the law Rog-O

G C 5 4 1 1 . 2 0 5 .

That first sentence is pretty important. So is the 4th amendment to the Constitution. That still applies in Texas, at least for the time being. :D

If a citizen wants to tell you to fuck off, then you have a choice to make. You can fuck off, or you can push it. You had better have really damn good probably cause to go frisking someone for a handgun. There are federal laws against illegal search and seizure by a police officer. You want to risk that over a class B misdeamenor?

Why the hell would a cop want to start shit by asking questions about a hangun permit anyway? If you pull someone over for speeding, why can't you just talk about speeding? If you see trash on his floor are you going to give him shit about all that possible litter on the ground.
