I disagree owen. We did not just leave him there. They have been searching for him since the beginning. JPRA can only work from what they find, and what they have found has been small and scattered and they are doing the best they can to find him and determine what has happened. no one has given up, on him or ANYONE who is POW/MIA. I have not read Yarsinke's book, but as you stated yourself, what she said is unconfimed. I work at SERE and have read the briefs and updates on Speicher as well as several other POW/MIA's both recovered since the updates and not, and there is alot being done for all of them. There is no need to contact senators and congressmen. The government is in constant contact with the family, they are well aware of the situation. I admire your drive, but you have little true knowlege of what you are rallying for. I can appreciate your want to help the family find answers, but dont assume no one else is trying. Everyday they are searching, for something, anything that will lead to him.

I think Owen is only saying this so that people turn up the heat. Your exposure to the case as a SERE instructor is most likely limited since you are only privy to what is released through DON.

It disturbs me that you can ask any American on a streetcorner to identify Jessica Lynch with no problems. If you mention Scott Speicher, all you'll get is a funny look. I wish I had a faith so I could pray that we find him.

Which is why these threads are stupid and always degenerate into ridiculous speculation and indignant fist pumping at "The Man."

Clux4, I see what you are saying, and it is possible that what i get is not the whole of the issue, but it will be more than what most find. We get everything released from JPRA and DOD, not just DON.

There's no heat to turn up. There's a whole agency whose job is to locate MIA servicemen, and they've located ones all the way back to WWII. Some seem to think that if we try hard enough we can do anything, which isn't true, and that if it can't be done, there's some sort of conspiracy going on. Finding a single dead body in in midst of a million square miles is challenging, to say the least. We're not perfect, but we do a decent job of taking care of people in this regard.

To say that a SERE instructor has less access to the actual facts of the matter than some hooyah reading the interwebs is ridiculous.

Not just him but the many that are still out there...

and thank you PhrogDriver, You are right. JPRA's sole purpose is to locate and recover missing service members, all missing service members. They work hard at everything they find to try to bring back everyone. Dead or alive. No one is ever forgotten or just left there.

Sirs,

Is the book " No One Left Behind " , worthy of being read? I'm betting that some of you here are well aware of if the book tends more towords being plausible or complete BS. I'd rather not waste the time if the book has no merit.

If this veers to far towards speculation, apologies in advance.

Captain Scott Speicher has been a hero of mine for several years--I think I was in 8th grade when I first heard about him. While I was at OCS (and those of you have gone or are about to go to NS Newport, Rhode Island might appreciate this if you don't already know), I learned that the USS Saratoga, which is at present decommissioned and located at the base, was the carrier from which he flew that night of 16 January 1991. It was very meaningful to see that right in front of you after hearing that.
I think this tribute that the Naval Aviation Museum has created is awesome. I hope it raises awareness and serves as a constant reminder until we have full knowledge of what has happened to Captain Speicher in all this time. I'll always honor the sacrifice he's made in serving America.

Key point gentlemen. Where indeed is Speicher? I have read Yarsinke's book and spoken with her. She is aware of what transpired at NNAM on Friday. Based on what I've been told, the book, and some other sources I believe he was, for a time, during Iraqi Freedom, in Syria. But that's just a guess and I have no idea whether he is alive today. Everyone needs to get and read a copy of Yarsinke's book. It will make your blood boil and if half of what she alleges true, some heads need to roll.

When we started the planning for the Speicher Hornet part of the intent was to raise awareness of what happened and for that to generate pressure on the govt to find out. We just left that guy! Here is what I would like to see happen:

1. We need to learn from this and never just leave a guy behind. There needs to never be another "Speicher Incident".

2 Everyone on this board needs to contact the White House and their Senators/Congressmen to find the answers. That family needs to know. If you could have seen the look in Speicher's daughter's eyes when I took the POW bracelet off my wrist and onto hers you'd write those letters today.

Below are links to email Obama and Biden. I don't have a universal
link for Congress.

Owen,
It is a gutwrencher, but reread what Bevo said. He happens to know what he's talking about:

The public does not need to know the details of what was learned. The immediate family members get briefed, and that is it.

Speculation does more harm than good. I've pulled together the 6 separate threads on the matter that date as far back as 2001. SECNAV recently reviewed case before he left office so it's not like the matter is being ignored. As Bevo stated, the family was privy to findings and if family wants public to know what they have been told, then it would have already happened. Not sure if Webmaster wants AW to be used to lobby Congress and adminstration on this matter.

I read an article from BBC a few years back where the journalist got a "look" at a North Korean prison. I'll have to see if I can find it again, but it mentioned something about elderly Americans. POW's?

Try traitors. A small, but well publicized, group of American PoWs refused rapatriation after the war. Call it brainwashing or what you will. At least a couple are there to the present day.

Ok, I've prepared myself for blank stares. Has anyone else read this and immediately thought of Tom Robbins' "Villa Incognito"?
