My Triumph has Nippondenso and Gill electronics, and Keihin carbs.
Only problem with it is the "Triumph territory marker" is inop. Never worked, and the dealer could not figure it out either.

I have 97k miles on an '03 VW. I beat the crap out of it every day, and the only problem it's had in 5 years is the fuel door solenoid stuck once.Those are two words I never thought I'd see in the same sentence.
I think for the most part, with modern cars of any make, unless you get that 1 of 1,000 lemon, you just have to change the oil and it will be reasonably reliable.

I think part of VWs bad rap for client complaints is the clientele.
Lot of snobbish, I-want-my-way-now types driving them compared to most other "normal" brands in the price range.
Every VW I bought was reliable.
