The stadium is only a couple of miles from KPHL. We didn't get a NOTAM or anything. Would've been a good thing, though.

IAW FAA regulations--1000AGL over large gatherings. If you're going to bust FARs, probably not best to do it with half the flag officers in the Navy/MC watching.

There's also been a recent crack down on flyover altitudes from CNAF, perhaps because of all the Youtube videos. When we did a Jags game last year, we were told 500'/90 knots from CNAF. Oh, and no flag, despite the HS guys doing it all the time w/ the same rig. TRA lives.

If you're going to do something against the rules:

1. Don't make video of yourself.
2. If you are stupid enough to violate rule #1, don't post it online.
3. Don't break the rules where others might take video of you.

Just be happy you're getting away with something in the first place. Why do idiots think they need video for posterity? That disc labeled "cool flying pics?" It has another name,"prosecution exibit 1." There's a Marine Prowler crew who could speak to this well.

Anyway, the flyby went pretty well, and was good press, though Googling the various discussion boards yielded comments from "COOL!" to "I'm surprised burning wreckage didn't fall on the crowd..." Yeah, thanks, mom.

People are stupid...what else is new? I'm sure you know this, but the public opinion of the Osprey is less than a realistic draw of it's capabilities.

EDIT: cool flyby, not the same 'ol same 'ol for sure.

I suppose it could, but the ones in APLN would be going a lot faster. It'd be more like two two aircraft flyovers.

We thought about a CONV mode flyover, but went with the APLN mode.

Here's a different view:

Did you guys ever consider doing it in parade instead of fighter wing/loose cruise?

250' cockpit to cockpit separation per NATOPS. An echelon formation would allow us to tuck it in a little more, but that's about as close as it's wise to make a symmetrical diamond.

So that was parade?

Pretty close. 250' is about 3 bladespans for visual reference. Contrary to popular misconception, you can land tighter than that, but you can't fly form closer than 250.

Echelon parade can get a little closer, because you don't have to get it all symmetrical with the slot aircraft.

VMM-161 received its first bird last week.

In a remarkable coincidence, here are some other local headlines since the Osprey arrived:

-Cancer was cured in SoCal.
-Cal's unemployment rate dropped to 0%.
-Illegal immigration was curbed.
-There have been zero noise complaints around NKX.

That's funny, because usually the V-22 gets blamed for every Marine that's died since the flag went up at Iwo Jima.

I'll keep that in mind next time I fly form. Wouldn't want you sweating bullets.

Thanks for the consideration. I wasn't trying to flame, just saying that there's a reason why the formation flyover wasn't in parade five feet from each other's spinning blades.
