Zulu time is the same thing as Greenwich Mean Time. If you are in California or any other area within the Pacific time zone then you add 7 hours to the local time (during daylight savings time) to figure out what GMT is. When it is standard time (i.e., not daylight savings time) you add 8 hours. To figure out what the local time is from GMT you subtract the appropriate number from GMT.
And if you are bad with math, you just set it once on your watch and it is always there waiting for you, especially when you take off in one time zone, stop for fuel in another, and land in a third....
