Worst duty stations

Had to chime in on the bit about Pensacola. Flight school for the Army is at Fort Rucker, Alabama. We used to drive three hours TO Pensacola on weekends to get to civilization. Ouch...

Don't misunderstand my post. I'm not saying PNS is the "worst duty station" by any means. I'm just saying I can understand the disappointment, and it's not on my top 5 list.

I personally hated my time in Newport, RI. It is the only duty station I was actually miserable while I was there, mostly because of that juggling family, cold weather, and BOOST. NSI wasn't too bad so I actually started to enjoy it a little more before I left.

Every duty station has its ups and downs. If you are a big city kinda guy (or gal) try to avoid places like Cherry Point. I personally grew up just east of Cherry Point and love boating so it was a great place for me growing up, now I don't even care to visit. I actually enjoy moving to different areas to experience new things.
 
Gotta say, fishing and boating around PCola can't be beat. But then I have enough spare time to do such things at the moment.

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. Of all the bad places to be stationed (I'm from New England, I know the cold, it sucks... but sh!t, Newport is awesome)...you think Newport sucks. Man, that's a new one for me. To each their own I guess.
 
Newport was alright. I have friends who would rather saw their own leg off before going back but I didn't mind it so much. The barracks sucked at the time. Nice bars but expensive. I can see how people wouldn't like it though......lack of girls, weather, expensive, weather, nothing outdoors, weather. I liked its proximity to NYC and Boston. Never been there before and I enjoyed making the trips.

Lack of girls? In the summer all the rich girls come on the sailboats.

Oh yeah, and to the guy who thinks that Kadena is the worst place around, there is something seriously wrong with you.....wait to you sit on a ramp in 130 degree weather surrounded by the worlds largest sandpit, then you know a sh$%hole...........:icon_smil
