Winging next month. Any suggestions on what to select?

Some more advice on figuring out what each community/aircraft/coast/etc. you'd like-

When talking to individual instructors, I wouldn't ask them open-ended questions like, "How was it?" or, "What did you like about it?" because the answer you'll almost always get will be vague like, "The flying was pretty good," or, "Living in xyz was pretty good."

Try asking guys to describe one or two things that they didn't like about their selection and to also please explain why. You might get an earful because that individual was particularly bitter about something (so take it with a grain of salt), but you'll probably surprise the instructor with such a critical question and get a thoughtful answer in return.

Appreciate the advice.

Please tell me you are not recommending a community based on your experience as an RP.

That is so far removed from what the actual community (and life) is like, it borders on the verge of bad gouge.

Well there aren't any HSM instructors in the HT's. I'm putting out there what I know. Just trying to help a guy out, because with all the koolaid drinking HSC guys there, I feel like HSM is getting a bad rap.

HSM is pretty much the same thing as HSL, just with a new helo and the possibility of working from the CV.

Essentially a HSM pilot becomes something like a 60R NFO during the RAG.

The point was that the rumor floating around the HTs right now is incorrect and the HSM RAG doesn't take as long as people are claiming that "know."

By the way, the ATO phase for the R isn't that different from the Bravo, except there's a couple more events because there's more buttons to learn how to push. It's still only half the syllabus and now you get to fly a little bit, unlike the Bravo RAG.

From what I heard from the B guys transitioning, the R ATO phase is quite a bit more involved. And the ATO phase is about 2 months on average longer than NATOPS phase. On average it takes 10 months nowadays with roughly 4 months for NATOPS and 6 months for ATO (Include about 9 flights in the phase).

The Romeo is a very capable platform.

6 and 4 is not too far off from what the HSL-40 (East B RAG at the time) was taking in 2003. My class did it in 6, with ATO and NATOPS overlapping a bit.

Most the B guys I know, that winged relatively at the same time I did, finished their RAG in about 6 to 8 months (longer side). So it is about two months shorter on average from what I have seen.
