Why is the COD tread locked mods???

Exactly bunk22...the new prop design is much easier to maintain indeed. Pulling the dome (VATS too) in order to change one blade because there is a slight fracture in the spar is a lot of work. Especially when you have to do it in Bahrain ;) during the summer....Never understood why we were outfitted with 427's to pull more power to haul those extra bags around.

How is blade angle changed? Hydraulic fluid or is it the new servo-style electronic control? "More-than-four" composite blades were proposed by Lockhed for their Orion 2000 (or whatever, they lost anyway). One of the explanations I'd heard regarding was weight reduction, which had the added bonus of a less complicated servo system vice hydraulic BA control (lighter blade, needs less force to move, yadda yadda).

Looks cool anyway.

Now if the Navy would only fix the FLE issues so we don't have to worry about airframe cracks.

I think blade angle is still changed via pitch control motor which actuates hydraulic fluid (pressure) that turns the blades.
